Rahul Kohli Issues Apology for Comments on The ‘Fantastic Four’ Casting: “I Wasn’t Gonna Address It but I Guess I Have to Now”
A few months back, Marvel Studios revealed the actors set to play the main roles in the upcoming ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot. Pedro Pascal will play Reed Richards, alongside Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm. They’ll be joined by Joseph Quinn as the Human Torch and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing. Julia Garner will take on the role of Shalla-Bal, the MCU’s Silver Surfer.
The casting stirred up quite a bit of controversy, with much of the criticism aimed at Garner’s portrayal of Silver Surfer. Pedro Pascal also faced some negative comments, with many fans skeptical about his ability to portray Mr. Fantastic, still holding out hope for Krasinski in the role.
In a recent interview with Salaam Nerds, Rahul Kohli disclosed that he was considered for the role but ultimately lost out to the star of ‘The Last of Us’.
Yeah, I don’t know if I’m allowed to talk about it but I didn’t get it, is the important thing. But on good days, I see the Constantine, it will flare up once and again. And, I love all of them. On good days, you’re like, ‘Man, I’m wanted!’ People really want to see. You’re the guy that people will shout out for anything. On bad days, ‘It’s a reminder that you’re not the guy. You’re not there. These are the roles you’ll never get.’ So, it’s sweet and it’s perspective. It’s how you feel about yourself.
After making these remarks, Rahul faced criticism from fans of Pedro Pascal, who interpreted his response as either resentment towards Pedro for landing the role or a belief that he deserved the role instead.
Rahul had to address the situation on social media, clarifying that his comment wasn’t meant as a slight against Pedro or the casting choice for the movie. Instead, he intended to highlight the importance of fan casting and mental health in the industry.
F-cking hell, this is being blown way out of proportion. I wasn’t gonna address it but I guess I have to now. I said during a podcast ‘I didn’t get it.’ I didn’t say I was in the running or I lost to Pedro Pascal or I was being considered or close to being in it. I just didn’t get it and it was a part of a larger point about fan-casting and mental health.
As for the role, Pedro is one of my favorite actors out there, a lovely person, and I can’t think of a better actor to play Reed. We were never ‘up against each other,’ I was never even in his league to begin with. I’m stoked for him and can’t wait to watch! Apologies everyone, lesson learned.
I don’t see any issue with Rahul’s comment. There’s no disrespect aimed at Pedro; everyone has the right to feel disappointed about not getting a role. The fans blew this out of proportion.
