Even though it’s not part of the larger Arrowverse, ‘Superman & Lois’ stands out as the CW’s highest-quality superhero show in terms of writing. The series has had its highs and lows, particularly last year.

Following Nexstar’s acquisition of CW and subsequent network restructuring, ‘Superman & Lois’ managed to survive while many other shows were canceled. This resulted in some main cast members being released, fewer writers onboard, and a reduced episode count compared to previous seasons.

The upcoming season marks the show’s final season, and CW’s President of Entertainment Brad Schwartz has hinted that it could be “Emmy-worthy.” Elizabeth Tulloch has now provided insight into why, dropping a significant hint about the comic-book storyline the show may adapt next.

During this year’s Superman Celebration event, Tulloch disclosed that the Season 4 premiere will be “wildly emotional.” She also revealed that it will draw inspiration from “a comic-book storyline.”

You guys are not going to believe the first episode. It’s bananas. It’s emotional. What they did was based on one of the comics. It was a very bold decision on their part to do this and to pull it off for the first episode of season 4.

Based on how Season 3 concluded with Superman battling Doomsday, it seems likely they adapted the iconic ‘Death of Superman’ storyline, one of the most shocking tales in comic book history.

While the creature in the season finale wasn’t explicitly named Doomsday, its origins align closely with the character. Created by Lex Luthor from Bizarro Superman, who was enhanced with X-Kryptonite and subjected to experimental treatments by Bruno Mannheim, Doomsday was intended to be immune to all threats.
