Fans Claim Anthony Mackie’s Captain America Has the Worst Dialogue in the MCU – He Has To Do Better

As Captain America: Brave New World approaches its release, many fans remain unhappy about Sam Wilson becoming the MCU’s new Captain America. Criticism has been intensified by examining past projects, particularly The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, where some of the character’s dialogue has recently come under scrutiny.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was a successful series with deep themes, but many fans feel that some of the dialogue was “unfortunate” and borderline silly.

A fan shared a YouTube video highlighting a confusing moment in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Toward the end of the series, after Anthony Mackie’s character puts on the Captain America suit, he confronts those responsible for the creation of the Flag Smashers. When they label Karli Morgenthau and her group as “terrorists,” Sam Wilson promptly corrects them.

You have to stop calling them terrorists.

Karli Morgenthau leads the Flag Smashers, a radical group that believes the world was better during the Blip, the period when Thanos erased half the population. The Flag Smashers aim to restore that state by advocating for open borders and resource redistribution. Although Karli is motivated by a desire for equality and justice, her methods become increasingly extreme and violent, eventually meeting the legal definition of terrorism.

Fans have also fixated on the “You gotta do better” line. The criticism primarily comes from the fact that Sam Wilson’s character critiques the senators for their terminology and laws without offering any practical solutions or guidance on how they could actually improve.

Another issue is the MCU’s inconsistent portrayal of morally grey villains. Fans have drawn comparisons between Karli, Wanda, and John Walker, arguing that labeling Wanda Maximoff and Karli Morgenthau as “misunderstood” while portraying John Walker as the villain lacks consistency. They believe Karli’s actions, which involved killing innocents to “send a message,” clearly meet the definition of terrorism.

Interestingly, the comments have suggested alternative lines that seem to address these issues more effectively than what the MCU’s writing team produced.

How I would’ve fixed the line: “Yes they’re terrorists, but we shouldn’t ignore why they became terrorists in the first place.”

What’s worse is that the show actually did a pretty decent job at presenting how they’d started as genuine activists but strayed into terrorism, but not acknowledging that they became terrorists who caused destruction is what ruined it. If Falcon had said,”Do you know why they became terrorists?” or “They didn’t start out as terrorists.”, then this scene would’ve been much better.

Sam: You gotta do better, senator. Senator: How do we do better? Sam: idk do better.

@Bully_who_made_goblin_Jr_cry

Weren’t they terrorizing because they were angry that they got booted out of other people’s homes who returned after the blip? Homes that never belonged to them in the first place? I’d be grateful I had somewhere to live, likely for free, for 5 years straight. The entitlement of the writers really shows through in their characters.
