Released over a week ago, Deadpool & Wolverine has become a major box office and critical hit, celebrated as a triumphant return to the true MCU. Its success is largely attributed to the inclusion of legacy Marvel characters and various Deadpool variants.

One such variant is Lady Deadpool. There have been long-standing rumors suggesting Taylor Swift was cast in the role, which neither Shawn Levy nor Ryan Reynolds fully refuted. However, it turns out these rumors were unfounded; the character was actually portrayed by Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds’ wife and a renowned actress in her own right, as revealed in the movie’s credits.

If you believe Blake Lively was cast in the role merely because of her connection to the lead actor, you’re mistaken. Rob Liefeld, creator of both Deadpool and Lady Deadpool, confirmed that he actually based the comic version of Lady Deadpool on Blake Lively. At the time the character was created, Liefeld and his wife were avid fans of Gossip Girl. He shared details about the character’s creation in an Instagram post.

In a separate social media post, Lively revealed that at the time, Liefeld was unaware she was working with Reynolds on the 2011 superhero film, and Deadpool had not yet been greenlit.

12 years later I read Rob’s post [about inspiring Lady Deadpool]. A year after that, @deadpoolmovie 3 was filmed. The universe has such a magical sense of humor sometimes.

Blake Lively isn’t the only member of the Reynolds family to appear in the movie. According to the credits, all their children had roles, some quite prominent. Their 7-year-old daughter, Inez, played Kidpool, and Reynolds humorously remarked on social media about how challenging it was to work with her. Their youngest, 1-year-old Olin, portrayed Babypool.

Their 4-year-old daughter, Betty, is credited in the film, though she does not appear on screen. A TikTok post from July 27 reveals that Betty is listed as “Hugh Jackman Wrangler,” although her exact role remains unclear, especially given her connection to actor Hugh Jackman.

Their 9-year-old, James, is credited as a “screaming mutant” on IMDb, but the role’s specifics are otherwise vague.
