Disney announced on Wednesday that Marvel has an untitled movie scheduled for December 15, 2028. If everything goes as planned, this would be the fourth Marvel movie released that year, joining others set for February, May, and November.

However, it’s not certain that all four films will come out in 2028. Disney often holds onto release dates even if the movies aren’t ready yet, keeping the schedule flexible. For example, Marvel’s “Blade” was pushed back from November 2025 only after Disney found a spot for the film “Predator: Badlands.”

Disney CEO Bob Iger recently admitted that Marvel made too many projects, which caused them to lose focus. During an investor call in May, he said, “We all know that in our zeal to flood our streaming platform with more content, that we turned to all of our creative engines, including Marvel, and had them produce a lot more.”

He added, “We’ve also learned over time that quantity does not necessarily beget quality. And frankly, we’ve all admitted to ourselves that we lost a little focus by making too much. By consolidating a bit and having Marvel focus much more on their films, we believe that will result in better quality.”

Fans have already started speculating that this movie might in fact be a ‘Fantastic Four’ sequel. However, many others pointed out that no sequels are likely planned until they see how the first movie in the franchise will perform.

Looking ahead to 2026 and 2027, Marvel has trimmed down its movie lineup. After “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” hits theaters in July 2026, Marvel plans two movies that year: “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” a collaboration with Sony Pictures in July, and “Avengers: Doomsday” in December. In 2027, two films are scheduled: an untitled movie in July and “Avengers: Secret Wars” in December.

“Secret Wars” is expected to wrap up the Multiverse Saga. After that, Marvel will likely shift focus to stories about the X-Men and other characters from 20th Century Fox, which Disney acquired in 2019.

Jake Schreier, director of “Thunderbolts,” has been chosen to direct the MCU’s first mutant movie. Fans might also see familiar faces from the older X-Men movies, like Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart, appearing in “Doomsday.”

Besides the “Fantastic Four” sequel, other Marvel projects that could come out in 2028 include “Blade” and “Black Panther 3.”
