Capcom recently gave fans a first look at gameplay from Resident Evil Requiem during a livestream event. The short clips showed the game from both first-person and third-person views and introduced a new main character, FBI Agent Grace Ashcroft.

In the first-person scenes, Ashcroft cautiously moves through dark, creepy hallways with just a lighter to light the way. The atmosphere is very tense, especially when a big humanoid monster suddenly appears from the shadows.

Another clip shows Ashcroft holding a handgun while exploring a large hallway. Here, we see her skill in calmly investigating her surroundings, including a close-up look at a toolbox, a classic Resident Evil detail. As Capcom put it, she can “act with calm, deductive reasoning.”

The third-person footage gives a different angle, showing Ashcroft exploring shadowy rooms and hallways while that same scary creature stalks nearby. Capcom explained that playing in first-person offers “tense, realistic gameplay,” while the third-person, over-the-shoulder camera lets players see “more of the action.”

They also said the third-person view is “great for people who enjoy action-heavy gameplay.” Players can switch between these two perspectives anytime during the game through the Options menu.

Capcom also shared that Resident Evil Requiem takes place 30 years after the missile strike on Raccoon City, which was shown at the end of Resident Evil 3. This explains the huge crater featured in the announcement trailer. The title “Requiem” was chosen because, as Capcom said, “This game is a requiem, a eulogy to those who came before.”

Some fans were hoping for news about Leon Kennedy, a well-known character in the series, but there was no big reveal about him in this preview. Capcom hinted that there might be more about Leon in the future, but for now, his role is still unknown.

Resident Evil Requiem is set to launch on February 27, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. For more information, check out the full Capcom Spotlight 2025 event.
