New Poster for Uma Thurman in Netflix’s ‘The Old Guard 2,’ Also Starring Charlize Theron, Gives Some Serious ‘Kill Bill’ Vibes

Netflix just dropped a brand new poster for The Old Guard 2, and fans are loving it, especially because Uma Thurman looks like she’s straight out of Kill Bill. The vibe is strong, and it’s no surprise that people are talking. The poster also features Charlize Theron, who returns as Andy, and it’s clear the sequel is aiming to go even bigger than the first movie.

The Old Guard 2 is the follow-up to the 2020 film and is based on the comic by Greg Rucka. This time, the movie is directed by Victoria Mahoney. Charlize Theron is back in the lead, along with KiKi Layne, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Matthias Schoenaerts, Vân Veronica Ngô, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, who are all returning from the first film.

New to the cast are Uma Thurman, playing a character named Discord, and Henry Golding as Tuah.

The story picks up after Andy loses her immortality. She’s trying to live a normal life, but things take a turn when a powerful immortal, one of the very first, rises up and threatens the world. That forces Andy and the rest of the team to come out of hiding and fight once again.

Back in July 2020, Greg Rucka joked, “In case of sequel, break glass. It’s very straightforward. You want another one? Here’s a way to get into it.” Around the same time, Charlize Theron said, “Let’s have a little resting period, but just given the fact that all of us really want to do it, I’m sure when it’s the right time, we’ll start the conversation.” Those conversations clearly happened, because by January 2021, Netflix gave the green light to move forward.

In August 2021, Victoria Mahoney was brought on as director, replacing Gina Prince-Bythewood, who directed the first one. The original cast was confirmed to return, and in June 2022, Netflix revealed that Uma Thurman and Henry Golding had joined the project in mystery roles. Greg Rucka wrote the script again, and the movie is being produced by a team that includes Charlize Theron herself.

Filming kicked off in June 2022 in Italy and included work at Cinecittà Studios. Production was briefly delayed when the set caught fire during teardown in August 2022, but the team kept things on track. Some scenes were also shot in the UK. Filming wrapped in September 2022.

Charlize Theron gave fans an update in July 2024, saying the movie had been shut down five weeks into post-production because of changes happening at Netflix. But she confirmed that work has since been finished and the movie will be released “soon.” According to the Union of British Columbia Performers, the film also had some extra scenes filmed in October 2024.

Music for the sequel is being handled by Ruth Barrett and Steffen Thum, replacing the composers from the first movie.

The Old Guard 2 will be released on Netflix on July 2, 2025. Until then, fans can enjoy the new poster and get excited for what looks like a stylish and action-packed sequel.
