Chip Zdarsky, the writer behind Marvel’s latest Captain America comic, has been having a bit of fun with fans lately. While the new series promises action, big moments, and the return of Steve Rogers in a fresh storyline, a more unusual topic has gotten people talking, Captain America’s s** life.

Zdarsky, who’s known for his sharp humor and memorable work on titles like Daredevil and Batman, recently spoke with fans during a Q&A hosted by Captain America Comic Book Fans. Things took a strange but hilarious turn when someone asked whether Captain America cries during s**. Yes, really.

This question wasn’t out of nowhere. Zdarsky once joked that Daredevil “cries before and after s** but during s** he has a f**** job to do.”* That moment became a bit of a running joke online, so of course fans wanted to know how Steve Rogers compares.

Zdarsky’s first answer was, well, very on-brand for Cap. “Steve Rogers doesn’t have s**. What’s wrong with her? He’s waiting for marriage.” But he quickly followed that up with a more realistic answer: “No, Steve Rogers has had s**, I can canonically say that. That would be a little weird if he didn’t.”

As for whether Cap gets emotional during the act? Zdarsky said, “I will say he does not cry during s**. But unfortunately, one of the things he does during s** is s*lute. So sometimes, it hurts his partner and he feels really bad about it. And maybe he cries at that point. I don’t know.”

It’s clearly a joke, but it’s also another example of how fans—and Zdarsky himself—enjoy playing with the more personal and ridiculous side of these larger-than-life characters. After all, even superheroes are fair game for awkward conversations.

Cap’s romantic history has often been a mystery, even within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. His s** life was actually part of a running joke in She-Hulk, and the idea of him being a 100-year-old virgin has floated around for years. Zdarsky’s comments just keep that playful energy going.

But beyond the laughs, there’s an actual comic series coming, and Zdarsky is clearly excited about it. In a press release from Marvel, he said he’s diving deep into who Steve Rogers is as a person. “I’ve been a massive Captain America fan for decades,” he said. “We’re exploring Cap’s early days in the modern era with a twist that I think is going to really surprise readers!”

The new comic kicks off shortly after Steve is thawed from the ice and returns to the U.S. Army. His first mission? Teaming up with the Howling Commandos to sneak into Latveria, which is now being ruled by a young Doctor Doom. Zdarsky says that while the series will eventually move into the present-day Marvel timeline, these early events will have lasting effects.

With Zdarsky writing, Valerio Schiti on art, and Frank Martin on colors, the book is set to bring both emotional depth.
