‘Euphoria’ Star Could Be the Next Bond Girl in Big Franchise Reboot According to Reports
It looks like Sydney Sweeney might be stepping into one of Hollywood’s most iconic roles. The Euphoria star is reportedly at the top of the list to play the next Bond girl in the upcoming James Bond film.
According to The Sun on Sunday, director Denis Villeneuve is seriously considering her for the part, and even Amazon boss Jeff Bezos is said to be backing the idea.
An insider told The Sun, “Sydney is the top name on the casting sheet for Bond. Denis believes she is hugely talented, as well as having an alluring appeal to younger generations, vital in modernising the franchise.”
The Bond series is going through big changes. Amazon now holds creative control of the franchise after taking over from longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.
With Denis Villeneuve now confirmed as the director, the next movie is expected to bring a fresh take while keeping the classic Bond feel.
“Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007,” Villeneuve said. “I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr No with Sean Connery. To me, he’s sacred territory. I intend to honour the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come.”
Sydney Sweeney, 27, has been on a rapid rise in Hollywood. She’s best known for her role in Euphoria, and most recently starred in Immaculate. She’s not just known for her acting but also her confidence when it comes to challenging roles.
In a chat with W Magazine, she shared, “In general, if something scares me, then usually I’m going to do it, because that means I’m challenging myself.” She also spoke about filming n*de scenes and said, “I don’t get nervous [about shooting n*de scenes]… I think that the female body is a very powerful thing. And I’m telling my character’s story, so I owe it to them to tell it well and to do what needs to be done.”
According to the same source from The Sun, “They’ve hung out together a lot and he has admired her stratospheric rise. Plus Sydney has the quality of being athletic and able to perform physical scenes, as well as being feminine and following in the legacy of the Bond girls.”
The next Bond film will also introduce a new 007, as Daniel Craig left the role after No Time To Die in 2021. The buzz around who will take over the role continues, but one thing’s clear, if Sydney joins the cast, this new Bond movie is going to get a lot of attention.
