Rachel Brosnahan Teases Lois Lane’s Superwoman Future in Upcoming DCU Films
Rachel Brosnahan, who plays Lois Lane in James Gunn’s new Superman movie, has hinted that her character could get superpowers in future DCU films. In a recent interview with WIRED, Brosnahan and Gunn talked about the idea of Lois Lane becoming Superwoman at some point in the DC Universe.
Fans of the comics know that Lois has had powers before, and it sounds like both Brosnahan and Gunn are open to exploring that in the movies.

In the interview, James Gunn was asked if Lois Lane ever gets powers. He answered by saying he often thinks about it when he sees Lois with powers in the comics. “I think about it every time I see her with powers, I’m like, ‘I know it. I know it’s Rachel’s,’” Gunn said.
He also pointed out that in the current comics, Lois does have superpowers. Brosnahan joined in, reminding fans that in the famous All-Star Superman comic, Lois becomes Superwoman for a day on her birthday. “She becomes Superwoman for a day on her birthday in All-Star Superman, and there’s other comics where she gets powers,” she explained.
The actress even encouraged fans to push for Lois Lane’s superhero turn. “Tell James you want to see a sequel where Lois Lane flies,” she joked during the interview. Gunn responded with “Yeah, maybe,” when Brosnahan asked him if he felt inspired to give her superpowers in the movies.
In Gunn’s version of Superman, the film doesn’t waste time showing how Lois and Clark meet or how Lois finds out Clark is Superman. Instead, the movie starts with them already in a relationship, showing their trust and love for each other. That gives more space for new storylines, possibly even ones where Lois becomes a superhero herself.
In the comics, Lois Lane has had superpowers several times. Sometimes they’re bizarre Silver Age powers, and other times she’s been given Kryptonian powers like Superman. Her time as a superhero is usually short, but she always makes good use of the abilities. Recently, in the comics, Amanda Waller stole powers from several heroes and gave them to others, and Lois ended up with Superman’s powers.
Gunn’s new Superman movie is said to embrace the crazier parts of DC lore. In this version of the DC Universe, people are already used to seeing wild things like aliens and superheroes. Lois Lane even works alongside other heroes like Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, and Mister Terrific not long after Superman reveals himself to the world. That makes the idea of Lois gaining powers in future films seem not so far-fetched.
Right now, there’s no official confirmation that Lois Lane will become Superwoman in the DCU, but it’s clearly something Gunn and Brosnahan have talked about. Gunn seems to like the idea, and Brosnahan looks excited about the possibility too.
Fans will likely have to wait for future movies to find out if Lois will actually get her chance to fly.
