The new Superman movie is flying high at the box office. Starring David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, the film is pulling in huge numbers both in the US and around the world.

According to reports, Superman made $17.12 million on its first Tuesday in North America, which now makes it the biggest Tuesday release of 2025. It passed other big films like Lilo & Stitch, Jurassic World Rebirth, and A Minecraft Movie.

Many theaters in places like the US offer discounted tickets on Tuesdays, sometimes called “cheap ticket day.” This boosts attendance but also means each ticket brings in less money. If a movie still breaks records even with cheaper tickets, that means large crowds showed up. This is why Tuesday stat is important.

The film saw a jump of over 30% from its Monday earnings of $12.9 million. Industry experts say this increase happened because many theaters offered cheaper tickets on Tuesday, which helped get more people to buy tickets during the week.

As of July 17, 2025, Superman has earned $155 million from the US and Canada alone. Internationally, it added another $159.4 million. That means its total global earnings stand at $314.5 million after just five days in theaters.

According to TheWrap, the movie needs to make more than $500 million worldwide just to cover its costs. The site also said that to be seen as a real success, Superman will likely need to cross $700 million globally.

The Hollywood Reporter had earlier predicted that the movie could have a $175 million opening weekend in the US and might go on to earn over $1 billion worldwide, based on how much attention its trailer got online. The film’s production and marketing reportedly cost around $400 million in total.

The movie is directed by James Gunn and marks the first film in his new version of the DC Universe. Many fans were nervous after previous DC movies didn’t meet expectations, but Superman seems to be winning them back. Critics and audiences are both praising the film.

Gunn’s Superman reboot was reportedly made with a budget of $225 million. Besides Corenswet and Brosnahan, the cast includes Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, along with Edi Gathegi and Anthony Carrigan in supporting roles. The movie was released worldwide on July 11 and is currently showing in cinemas everywhere.

With the early numbers looking strong, Superman seems to be off to a very successful start.
