New ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ Poster Reveals Varang as Trailer Arrives in Theaters
Fans of James Cameron’s Avatar series have something new to get excited about. A brand new poster for Avatar: Fire and Ash has just been released, and it gives us our first official look at Varang, the leader of a mysterious new Na’vi clan.
Varang is played by Oona Chaplin and, according to Cameron, she is a tough leader who will do anything to protect her people. In his words, “Varang is the leader of a people who have gone through an incredible hardship. She’s hardened by that. She will do anything for them, even things that we would consider to be evil.”

Varang leads a Na’vi tribe known as the Ash People, who live near volcanoes. This new poster highlights her distinct look and gives fans a hint of the darker tone this sequel might explore. Along with the poster reveal, fans can also look forward to the first official trailer for the movie, but there’s a catch, it will be shown only in theaters this weekend, playing exclusively with The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Avatar: Fire and Ash is the third film in James Cameron’s long-running sci-fi saga. It follows 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water. Cameron once again returns as director, co-writer, and producer.
The movie stars returning actors like Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Kate Winslet. David Thewlis joins the cast as Peylak, another new Na’vi character who will also appear in the future films. Meanwhile, Chaplin’s Varang is expected to play a key role not just in this film but also in Avatar 4 and Avatar 5.
Production on Avatar: Fire and Ash began alongside The Way of Water all the way back in 2017. Filming took place in New Zealand and wrapped in 2020 after more than three years. The film has been delayed several times, but 20th Century Studios now plans to release it in theaters on December 19, 2025.
The story will once again follow Jake Sully, Neytiri, and their family as they face new challenges on Pandora. This time, their journey will lead them to new Na’vi clans and even more dangerous environments, including volcanic regions where Varang and her people live. Familiar characters like Colonel Quaritch, now in a new Avatar body, and Payakan, the Tulkun whale, will also return.
Future plans for the franchise are already in motion. Two more sequels, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, are expected to follow in 2029 and 2031, but as Cameron once said, “Let’s face it, if Avatar 2 and 3 don’t make enough money, there’s not going to be a 4 and 5.”
For now, fans can enjoy the first glimpse of Varang on the newly released poster and catch the trailer this weekend in theaters. The wait for Pandora’s next chapter continues.
