South Park is packing its bags and leaving HBO Max very soon. The long-running animated comedy from Trey Parker and Matt Stone will disappear from the streaming platform on August 5, 2025.

This move comes after a massive new deal between the creators and Paramount Global, which now has the exclusive streaming rights for the show on Paramount+.

When HBO Max launched in May 2020, South Park was one of its major titles. WarnerMedia paid a huge sum, reported at more than $500 million, for the rights to stream the series. But now that deal is ending, and Paramount is taking over.

According to Paramount, Parker and Stone’s latest agreement is worth around $300 million per year, adding up to about $1.5 billion over the life of the deal.

The contract includes 50 brand-new episodes of South Park. All 26 previous seasons will also be moving over to Paramount+ for the first time. New episodes will still premiere on Comedy Central, but they will hit Paramount+ the very next day.

Paramount isn’t just getting the TV series. The South Park brand has expanded over the years into multiple areas, including video games, music videos, albums, short films, and a growing list of TV specials and movies made just for Paramount+. The franchise has become a pop culture giant, with critical praise and a loyal fan base.

The series has won five Primetime Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award, and has often been named among the best TV shows of all time. In 2013, TV Guide ranked it as the tenth greatest TV cartoon ever made. Even its 1999 movie, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut, was a major hit with critics and audiences, earning an Academy Award nomination.

For fans, this means if you want to keep watching on HBO Max, you have only until August 5 before the show is gone for good. After that, Paramount+ will be the exclusive home for Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny.

As the notice on HBO Max warns, β€œSouth Park is leaving soon.” So if you’ve been meaning to binge your favorite episodes or revisit classic moments, now’s the time to do it before the switch happens.
