Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps is on track to finish its theatrical run with an impressive worldwide total between $520 million and $570 million, according to industry projections.

The movie, which cost over $200 million to make, marks the second reboot of the Fantastic Four in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is directed by Matt Shakman.

The film stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn as the Fantastic Four, with Julia Garner, Sarah Niles, Mark Gatiss, Natasha Lyonne, Paul Walter Hauser, and Ralph Ineson in supporting roles. Set in a retro-futuristic version of the 1960s, the story follows the team as they face the cosmic threat of Galactus, a planet-devouring force played by Ineson.

As of August 3, 2025, the film has earned $198.4 million in the United States and Canada, along with $170.3 million from other countries, giving it a global total of $368.7 million so far. Box office experts say these numbers put it well on its way to passing the break-even point and into profitable territory.

The film’s opening was strong. Before its release, projections suggested it would make between $100 and $110 million domestically and another $90 to $100 million overseas during its debut weekend. It delivered on that promise, opening to $117.6 million in North America and $216.7 million worldwide.

On its first day, it made $57 million, which was the second-highest opening day for a film in 2025, only behind A Minecraft Movie. It also set a record for the biggest Thursday night previews of the year, earning $24.4 million, surpassing Superman, which had been released only two weeks earlier.

However, the second weekend told a different story. The film saw an 80% drop on its second Friday, making $11.7 million. This is the steepest second-weekend drop for a comic book movie this year, with Captain America: Brave New World having a 68% drop.

While the decline is notable, it is not unusual for superhero films with massive opening weekends to see big drop-offs in the following days.

The movie’s budget sits at just over $200 million, which is typical for large MCU productions. Experts in the film industry often say a blockbuster must earn two to two-and-a-half times its production budget to break even.

This means The Fantastic Four: First Steps needs somewhere between $400 million and $500 million worldwide to cover its costs, with anything above that being pure profit.

With current projections pointing toward $520–$570 million globally, the movie appears to be heading toward a successful run. Whether it will match the higher-earning Marvel films of the past remains to be seen, but it’s already secured its place as one of 2025’s biggest releases so far.
