Chris Hemsworth recently shared a special video on social media that Marvel first released in 2022 to celebrate his time as the God of Thunder. But this time, Hemsworth added a personal message, showing just how much the role has meant to him.

“Playing Thor has been one of the greatest honors of my life. For the last 15 years I’ve held Mjolnir and then Stormbreaker as the God of Thunder, but what made it truly special… was sharing it with all of you. Your passion, your cheers, and your love for this character have meant everything to me. Thank you for making my journey through the Marvel Cinematic Universe unforgettable.. Next up, Doomsday!” Hemsworth wrote in his caption.

This post has gotten fans talking. Some believe this might be Hemsworth’s way of saying goodbye, or at least getting ready to wrap things up soon. We do know that he’ll appear again as Thor in Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to come out in theaters on December 18, 2026.

After that, Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled for the following year, on December 17, 2027. But beyond that, Marvel hasn’t said anything official about what’s next for Thor or for Hemsworth, but Feige did recently hint that Hemsworth is still in his prime to play Thor in the foreseeable future.

Now, Hemsworth himself decided to explain why he posted that farewell message, as per his own words it was all a misunderstanding:

I had a few people ask me about it, and someone on my team said, ‘Ugh, we’ve given the wrong impression here.’ We didn’t do any [damage control]; there was no damage control necessary. But a lot was read into a little,Hemsworth says. “I was [already] off starting another chapter of this character, and this journey has been the biggest part of my career. So [the video] was a moment of gratitude, and it wasn’t anything else. But it definitely got misconstrued and perceived in a different way.”

Now that we know that Thor is (as far as we know) not leaving the franchise anytime soon, we can look forward to his upcoming reunion with Loki, as Tom Hiddleston was also announced to take part in Doomsday.
