‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Breaks Viewership Records, Surpasses Season 1 with Huge Numbers
The return of Wednesday to Netflix has been a huge success, and the numbers show just how much fans were waiting for it. According to Samba TV, the second season was watched in 2.7 million U.S. households during its first five days, which is 6% more than the already impressive debut of season one. This is especially impressive since the show had been off the air for almost three years, proving that fans were eager to jump back into the spooky world of Wednesday Addams.

Even before the show premiered, Wednesday was creating a buzz. Data from Whip Media, gathered from TV Time users, revealed that the show had the second-highest number of pre-release followers among Netflix originals, only behind The Witcher. When season one finally launched, it quickly reached number one on Netflix in 83 countries, according to Netflix.
That first season also set a record for the most hours viewed in a week for an English-language Netflix series, with 341 million hours watched—beating Stranger Things season four by a small margin.
Nielsen Media Research added more proof of the show’s success, reporting that the first season hit 6 billion minutes viewed in its debut week. By December 2022, the series had been watched in 150 million households and passed one billion total viewing hours, making it Netflix’s second most-watched English-language show ever.
Season two is keeping the momentum alive. Critics and fans are enjoying the new episodes, with Rotten Tomatoes giving it an 82% approval rating based on 68 reviews. The critics consensus says, “Wednesday’s second season smartly opens up to include more of the whole Addams clan, backing up Jenna Ortega’s lovably heartless teenager with an ookier and spookier ensemble.”
On Metacritic, the season earned a score of 65 out of 100, indicating generally positive reviews. The show’s blend of dark humor, mystery, and Jenna Ortega’s deadpan performance continues to be a hit.
With strong viewership numbers and positive reviews, Wednesday season two is proving it’s more than just a comeback, it’s becoming one of Netflix’s biggest hits. Fans clearly can’t get enough of Wednesday Addams and her spooky adventures.
