Taylor Sheridan is proving once again why he is one of the most important creators for Paramount+. At a recent press event in Los Angeles, the new Paramount leadership made it clear that Sheridan’s shows are a top priority for the combined Skydance-Paramount Global company.

“On Paramount+ today, we have a really great foundation, which is the Taylor Sheridan universe,” said Cindy Holland, Paramount’s Chair of Direct-to-Consumer. Paramount CEO David Ellison added that Sheridan is “a singular genius with a perfect track record.”

They also confirmed that Lioness is getting its long-awaited third season. The show’s star Zoe Saldaña had a three-season deal in place, but co-star Nicole Kidman needed a new contract for Season 3, which delayed the renewal slightly.

The new seasons will be filmed at the recently opened 450,000-square-foot production campus in Fort Worth, Texas, part of the 27,000-acre AllianceTexas development. This studio is the largest operating facility in Texas and is a joint project between SGS Studios, Sheridan’s company with 101 Studios CEO David Glasser, Paramount Television, and Hillwood, a Perot Company.

Lioness, also known as Special Ops: Lioness, is inspired by a real U.S. military program. It follows CIA operative Joe, played by Saldaña, as she tries to balance her personal and professional life while on the front lines of the war on terror. Sheridan executive produces the series along with Glasser, Saldaña, Kidman, Burkle, Yari, Hutkin, Jill Wagner, David Lemanowicz, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman, and Keith Cox. The show premiered on July 23, 2023, on Paramount+, and its second season premiered on October 27, 2024.

The first season of Lioness became Paramount+’s most-watched global series premiere at the time, with nearly six million viewers in its first week across the platform and a linear preview on the Paramount Network. Its Rotten Tomatoes approval rating was 56% for Season 1 but rose to 73% as of April 2025. The second season currently holds a 90% approval rating based on critic reviews.

The second season reached three million viewers in the first seven days and 8.3 million domestic households overall, a 10% increase from Season 1. Globally, the series attracted 12.4 million viewers across all platforms by November 10, 2024, ranking #3 in the most-watched global series premieres on Paramount+.

Sheridan continues to show why his storytelling is central to Paramount+. With multiple shows filming and new seasons on the way, it’s clear that the Taylor Sheridan universe will remain a cornerstone of Paramount+ for years to come.
