James Gunn Warns ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Premiere Is Definitely Not Kid-Friendly
James Gunn is making it very clear that the first episode of Peacemaker season 2 is not for children. In an interview with Rainn Wilson, Gunn explained why the premiere goes further than most people might expect.
The episode includes frequent use of explicit language, including the word “C****,” and a full-on o**** that features dancing p*****.
Wilson admitted that seeing it for the first time left him shocked. Gunn responded, “Listen, we wanted to make it real. I’m not worried about the use of the C word… But the o*** in the first episode, I think we’re just letting people know, ‘Hey, this is a wild ride that you’re in for the whole season and this is the kind of craziness you’re going to see.’”
He emphasized that, although Peacemaker is a follow-up to the DC Universe film Superman (2025), the show is “definitely not for children.” Gunn explained that HBO has always allowed creators a lot of freedom when it comes to nudity and adult content, and this season is no exception.
Gunn also talked about the production of the o*** scene, mentioning the importance of intimacy coordinators. “The intimacy coordinator was my best friend for the days that we were shooting that o*** because it really allowed us to just do whatever we wanted and be really comfortable with it and make sure that everyone was on the same page,” he said.
The second season of Peacemaker follows Chris Smith, a jingoistic mercenary, and is set in the DC Universe, which acts as a soft reboot of the DC Extended Universe. Produced by DC Studios with Gunn as showrunner, the season is scheduled to premiere on HBO Max on August 21, 2025, and will include eight episodes. Critics have already praised the season, saying it improves on the first and highlighting John Cena’s performance along with the wider cast.

In short, fans should know going in that this season is adult from the very first episode. Gunn’s warning is clear: this is not a show for kids, and viewers should expect bold, outrageous, and very explicit content right from the start.
