Netflix has confirmed that Blue Eye Samurai will return for a second season. The news came during the streamer’s Anime NYC panel, where creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green, along with producer Jane Wu, shared updates about the future of the hit animated series.

A teaser was also shown, giving fans an early look at what season two will bring.

Blue Eye Samurai is set in 17th-century Japan and tells the story of Mizu, voiced by Maya Erskine. She is a half-Japanese, half-white warrior with one goal: revenge. Her father abandoned her and her mother, and her childhood was marked by being forced to hide her identity.

Her mother disguised her as a boy to protect her, and Mizu carried that disguise into adulthood. Now, she hunts down four white men who remained in Japan after the country closed its borders.

In season one, Mizu’s quest led her to face Irish smuggler Abijah Fowler, played by Kenneth Branagh. Fowler eventually revealed the location of two more of her targets in London.

He convinced her to keep him alive so she could use his influence and travel overseas. That ending set the stage for season two, where Mizu’s journey will continue outside Japan.

The voice cast includes several well-known names. George Takei voices Seki, the tutor of Princess Akemi. Masi Oka plays Ringo, a cook who joins Mizu despite losing his hands. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa voices Master Eiji, the blind swordsmith who raised Mizu and whom she calls her “Swordfather.”

Brenda Song voices Princess Akemi, a young noblewoman longing for independence, while Darren Barnet plays Taigen, a swordsman tied to both Mizu and Akemi. Randall Park is Heiji Shindo, Fowler’s jailor, and Kenneth Branagh voices Fowler himself, a schemer hoping to overthrow the Shogun.

Producer Jane Wu promised fans that the fight scenes in season two will look even more realistic, thanks to motion references taken from live-action stunt performers.

Director John Aoshima will also helm at least one of the six planned episodes. According to Noizumi and Green, the story has been mapped out for three seasons in total, so viewers can expect a complete arc.

Blue Eye Samurai has been a critical success. Rotten Tomatoes currently lists the show at 97% with an average rating of 8.3 out of 10. The site’s critics’ consensus reads, “Visually dazzling while paying deft attention to character, Blue Eye Samurai is a masterfully rendered animated adventure.”

Netflix confirmed that season two will premiere in 2026, giving fans time to prepare for Mizu’s next bloody chapter.
