Chris Pratt as DCU’s Batman? Gunn Gives a Straight Answer
The DC Universe is moving forward with new projects, but fans are still waiting to learn who will join David Corenswet’s Superman as Batman and Wonder Woman. Superman has already arrived to start the live-action side of the DCU, and Peacemaker season 2 is streaming now. Still, no actors have been named for the other two members of the iconic DC trinity.
James Gunn has said before that casting for Batman and Wonder Woman hasn’t been decided yet. That hasn’t stopped fans from picking favorites.
Some people want Alan Ritchson or Jensen Ackles as Batman, while others are hoping Robert Pattinson’s version from Matt Reeves’ movies might eventually cross into the main DCU.
A new name came up recently when Gunn was asked about Chris Pratt. Pratt worked with Gunn in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies, where he played Star-Lord. He’s one of the biggest action stars in Hollywood, so naturally fans wondered if he could become the new Batman.
Gunn gave a clear answer. “As Batman? No… As something? Yes.”

That reply makes sense. Gunn has explained in the past that he likes working with actors he knows well because of their attitude and professionalism. So, while Pratt won’t be Batman, it sounds like he could still find a role somewhere in the DCU.
The first appearance of Batman in this new universe actually came through the animated series Creature Commandos, though the character didn’t have an actor tied to him.
The real introduction will come in The Brave and the Bold, a movie that will also feature Damian Wayne, Bruce Wayne’s son, as Robin. Gunn has described it as a father-and-son story at the heart of the film.
The movie will be based on Grant Morrison’s comic run and is planned to stand apart from Matt Reeves’ The Batman series, which continues under DC’s Elseworlds label. Andy Muschietti, the director of The Flash, is set to direct the film with his sister Barbara producing.
Development has slowed at times due to scheduling issues and to avoid overlap with Reeves’ upcoming sequel, but a writer is currently working on the script with Gunn.
Ben Affleck’s time as Batman has already ended, and with Reeves continuing separately, The Brave and the Bold will be the moment DCU introduces its own mainline Dark Knight.
I think Gunn was smart to rule out Pratt as Batman right away. It keeps the focus on finding the right person for the role instead of forcing a popular name into it. Pratt could be fun in another DC role, but Batman needs a fresh face. What about you—who do you think should play the DCU’s Batman? Share your picks in the comments.
