Netflix has ordered another season of The Hunting Wives, bringing back the wild Texas drama for more twists and scandals.

The series, led by Brittany Snow and Malin Akerman, became one of the biggest streaming hits of the summer, and now the cast is set to return for season two.

Showrunner Rebecca Cutter, who also created the series, shared her excitement about the renewal. “I’m so excited to write these amazing characters again, and I can’t wait to take the audience on another sexy, twisted, batshit crazy ride through Maple Brook,” she said.

The show is based on May Cobb’s bestselling book of the same name. Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment originally produced it for Starz, but after Starz split from Lionsgate earlier this year, Netflix picked it up.

The move paid off. After its July 21 debut on Netflix, the series stayed in the U.S. Top 10 for five weeks and eventually became the most-watched streaming series in the country.

The popularity of the show also boosted Cobb’s novel. Publisher Berkley reported a 5,000 percent jump in sales across all formats compared to the year before. The book even went back to print twice during premiere week, according to Christine Ball, executive vice president and publisher.

Season two will continue the story from the first season rather than adapt more of Cobb’s work. The official description teases tension between Sophie and Margo, played by Snow and Akerman.

“At the start of season two, Sophie and Margo are on the outs. But soon enough, old secrets and new foes force them back together. As they play their dangerous games the question arises. Are they the hunters or the hunted?”

Cutter told The Hollywood Reporter that she always saw the show as ongoing rather than a one-season story. “Even when it was at Starz, it was never, in my mind, a limited series. From what I gather, doing more than three [seasons] is hard, so three is a great number. But I could do it forever. It’s so fun. The girls are so fun. We love it,” she explained.

The cast coming back includes Jaime Ray Newman, Dermot Mulroney, Evan Jonigkeit, and George Ferrier, along with Snow and Akerman. Season two will premiere globally as a Netflix-branded series, reaching most of the platform’s markets.

Cutter also spoke about the show’s cultural effect. She said she wasn’t trying to make a political statement when writing about a conservative Texas clique and a Democrat moving into town. “I’ve heard some people say that the show is part of this new mandate to make red-state content, and that wasn’t what it was. I mean, it was for horny middle-aged women,” she joked.

Snow and Akerman leaned into the hype online, teasing fans with a video confirming the second season and nodding to the big cliffhanger that closed season one.
