The Jason Universe Team Promises Major Surprises on the Way As Franchise Set To Expand
Jason Voorhees is officially back, and it looks like his return is just getting started. After years of legal issues that kept the Friday the 13th franchise in limbo, the team behind the newly formed Jason Universe is bringing the horror icon to life once again, and they have big plans ahead.
Earlier this year, Jason Universe kicked things off with the short film Sweet Revenge, giving fans a taste of what’s to come.
But that’s only the beginning. According to Robbie Barsamian of Jason Universe, there’s much more on the way, including a brand-new movie and video game centered around the infamous killer.
In a recent interview with SFX Magazine (via GamesRadar), Barsamian confirmed that a new feature film is in development. “We are actively working on a new movie – which will be the 13th in the franchise – as well as a new video game,” he shared.
He also hinted that Jason’s return won’t stop there, adding, “We’re exploring a variety of opportunities, but consistently staying focused on authenticity.”
Fans won’t have to wait long for more from this universe. The upcoming TV series Crystal Lake is set to debut next year. The show, produced by A24 for Peacock, will serve as a prequel to the original films.
It has gone through a few changes behind the scenes, Bryan Fuller, who was initially set to lead the project, was replaced by Brad Caleb Kane in 2024. Production is expected to begin in Australia, with a planned release for Halloween. Linda Cardellini has been cast as Pamela Voorhees, Jason’s mother, marking her first appearance in the franchise.
As for the movie side, the new project will mark the 13th entry in the long-running series, which began back in 1980. While the team hasn’t shared plot details yet, Barsamian’s comments suggest they’re committed to honoring the legacy of Jason Voorhees while finding new ways to expand his story.
After years of silence, it seems like the world of Friday the 13th is alive again, not only on screen but possibly in gaming too. Fans have been waiting for this moment, and from the sound of it, the wait is about to pay off.
It’s great to see Jason finally making his comeback after so many years of legal red tape. A new movie, video game, and series could breathe new life into one of horror’s most iconic franchises.
