Late-night host Jimmy Kimmel took aim at Donald Trump once again, mocking the U.S. president’s repeated efforts to be recognized by the Nobel Committee, just hours before Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado was announced as this year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner.

Machado, a leading voice against President Nicolás Maduro’s rule, was honored for her long fight to restore democracy in Venezuela. The Nobel Committee commended her “tireless work promoting democratic rights” and her push for “a peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”

Her win follows years of persecution, death threats, and periods of hiding due to her outspoken criticism of the Venezuelan government.

The committee praised her courage, saying it’s vital to recognize those who stand up to authoritarian regimes.

Meanwhile, Trump had once again positioned himself as a candidate for the Peace Prize. He claimed credit for stopping multiple wars and recently took to Truth Social to announce that “Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first Phase of our Peace Plan.” He said hostages would be released “very soon” and that Israel would pull its troops “to an agreed-upon line.”

Trump’s team also weighed in after the Nobel announcement. White House Director of Communications Steven Cheung said Trump would continue “making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives,” calling him a “humanitarian” whose impact “the world will never see again.” Cheung added that the Nobel Committee “chose politics over peace.”

But before the results were revealed, Kimmel used his show to poke fun at Trump’s obsession with the award. The comedian joked that Trump was pushing his “peace plan” mainly because the Nobel announcement was coming up. “Trump wants that Nobel Prize so badly,” Kimmel said. “No one has ever campaigned harder for an award than our Donnie Lama.”

Kimmel continued, mocking Trump’s claim that he wasn’t seeking the prize for personal reasons: “He says he’s not politicking for it, which must be why the White House posted a message calling him the peace president. The peace president is sending a platoon to invade a yoga studio in Portland right now.”

Kimmel’s comments drew laughter from his audience but also reflected ongoing divisions over Trump’s legacy and his public image abroad.
