Harry Potter fans have a reason to get excited. Audible and J.K. Rowling’s Pottermore Publishing announced more cast members for the upcoming Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions.

One of the most surprising names is Bill Nighy, who fans may remember as Rufus Scrimgeour, the Minister of Magic in the later Harry Potter films.

This time, Nighy is taking on a completely different role. He will play Professor Slughorn, the Potions Master who taught Tom Riddle, also known as Voldemort, about horcruxes. Slughorn spends years in hiding after Voldemort’s return but eventually comes back to Hogwarts to resume his position.

Nighy shared his excitement about the role, saying, “I was pleased to be asked to play the professor after having already played a Minister for Magic. Is it possible that I’m the only actor who can claim that achievement?”

“It means that my career continues to have meaning for the next couple of generations. I’m always grateful when asked to play academics, having not been further educated myself. I’m hoping to be a significant part of something that will keep children entertained in the car on those long journeys overseas or just on the way to school.”

So far, Nighy is the only actor from the original movies to return for the Full-Cast Audio Editions, though some other film actors are reprising their roles in different projects. For example, Warwick Davis is set to return as Professor Flitwick for the upcoming HBO TV series.

The Full-Cast Audio Editions also feature an impressive lineup of stars voicing iconic characters.

Hugh Laurie will play Albus Dumbledore, Matthew Macfadyen takes on Lord Voldemort, Riz Ahmed voices Professor Snape, and Michelle Gomez plays Professor McGonagall. Other notable actors include Mark Addy as Hagrid, Kit Harington as Professor Lockhart, Keira Knightley as Professor Umbridge, Simon Pegg as Arthur Weasley, and James McAvoy as Mad-Eye Moody.

This project promises to bring the magical world of Hogwarts to life in a new way. In my opinion, it’s exciting to hear familiar voices in new roles, especially when the cast includes such big names. What do you think about Bill Nighy returning as Slughorn and this all-star cast? Share your thoughts in the comments.
