‘Super Mario Galaxy’ Trailer Launches: Chris Pratt, Jack Black, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day Return for 2026 Sequel

The first trailer for the upcoming animated movie Super Mario Galaxy has officially dropped, giving fans a first look at the sequel to The Super Mario Bros.

Movie from 2023. The new film is set to hit theaters in the United States on April 3, 2026, with a Japanese release planned for April 24.

Super Mario Galaxy is being directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, with a script by Matthew Fogel. The film is produced by Illumination in partnership with Nintendo and will be distributed by Universal Pictures.

Many of the original cast members are returning, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek. New cast members joining the sequel include Brie Larson as Rosalina and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa told fans in May 2021 that the company was interested in making more animated films if the first Mario movie was successful. Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri also said before the release of the 2023 film that a sequel could be possible.

After The Super Mario Bros. Movie became a box office hit, Illumination officially announced that a new Mario movie was in development in March 2024, with Horvath and Jelenic returning to direct and Fogel writing the screenplay.

The first trailer shows fans glimpses of the Mushroom Kingdom and the characters they know and love, hinting at new adventures across space. Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, and Jack Black can be heard reprising their roles, while Brie Larson and Benny Safdie bring new characters to life.
