‘Fallout 76’ Adds TV’s The Ghoul: Walton Goggins Joins the Wasteland

Bethesda is bringing a fan-favorite character from the Fallout TV show into Fallout 76. Walton Goggins’ character, Cooper Howard, better known as The Ghoul, has become a standout since the show premiered on Prime Video in 2024.

Before the war, Howard was a Hollywood actor and Vault-Tec ambassador. After the bombs fell, he mutated into a ghoul and made a name for himself as a legendary gunslinger and bounty hunter in the wasteland.

In the series, The Ghoul teams up with Lucy, and in season two, viewers will see him journey with her to New Vegas to uncover the mystery of her father’s disappearance. His popularity caught Bethesda’s attention, and they decided to bring him into Fallout 76 as part of the new Burning Springs expansion.

Players can now find The Ghoul at ‘The Last Resort’ hub in Highway Town. He serves as the new host of bounty missions, offering tasks and rewards, though he will not be a playable character or accompany the player directly.

When first meeting him in the game, he says, “I happen to run a little service for the folks of this… charming locale. See, they ain’t got anything you might call law around here. Suits me fine, mind you, but that leaves a lot of bad blood unaddressed.”

IGN reports that the inclusion of The Ghoul in Fallout 76 was inspired directly by the TV show. Jon Rush, the game’s creative director, said, “Who better to host a bounty hunting feature than The Ghoul, right? Not just a ghoul, it’s the Ghoul from the show. Walton Goggins is a big fan of the franchise and the games. It came together really quickly, and Walton really made the character his own.”

Bringing The Ghoul into the game lets fans of the series experience a piece of the show in the Fallout 76 universe. With Goggins’ likeness and voice added, players get to interact with a character they already love while taking on new missions in the Burning Springs expansion.
