Vince Gilligan’s ‘Pluribus’ Becomes Apple TV’s Most-Watched Drama, Surpassing ‘Severance’
Apple TV’s latest drama, Pluribus, created by Vince Gilligan of Breaking Bad fame, has set a new viewership record for the streaming service.
The show’s debut overtook the previous record held by Severance Season 2, making it the most-watched Apple TV drama launch worldwide. The series premiered across more than 100 territories, with top viewership in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Brazil, Australia, Germany, Mexico, India, and France.
In the United States, initial numbers from Luminate reported that the first two episodes of Pluribus logged 6.4 million hours watched during the first week, placing the show at number four for the week among streaming originals.
Nielsen Streaming Content Ratings also confirmed the high demand, measuring minutes watched for Episodes 1 and 2 over the premiere weekend. There were reports that the Apple TV app temporarily crashed due to the heavy traffic following the launch.
Pluribus stars Rhea Seehorn and opened with two episodes on Friday, November 7.
Apple TV’s head of programming, Matt Cherniss, praised the series, saying, “Rarely has keeping the secret of a show we love so much been as fun or as rewarding an experience as it has been with Pluribus. Vince’s strikingly inventive premise blew us away from the second we read it, and witnessing the brilliance with which he has brought this series to life is truly remarkable. It’s a thrill to watch audiences worldwide get hooked on this thought-provoking, insightful and darkly funny show rooted in humanity by an exceptional cast led by the talented Rhea Seehorn. And we can’t wait for viewers to dive deeper into the mystery.”
