YouTube star Mark Fischbach, better known as Markiplier, has released a new trailer for his upcoming horror film, Iron Lung. The movie marks Fischbach’s first time directing a feature film and is based on the 2022 video game of the same name by David Szymanski. Fischbach not only directed and wrote the film but also stars in it and self-financed the production.

Iron Lung is set in a post-apocalyptic future after an event called “The Quiet Rapture,” which caused all stars and habitable planets in the universe to vanish. The story follows a convict, played by Fischbach, who must pilot a small submarine called the “Iron Lung” to explore an ocean of blood on a desolate moon. The film promises a tense, claustrophobic atmosphere as the character navigates the deadly depths.

Fischbach confirmed the film’s production in April 2023 with a teaser trailer and revealed that filming took place in Austin, Texas. He co-stars alongside Caroline Rose Kaplan and Seán McLoughlin, also known as Jacksepticeye. David Szymanski helped with the script and even has a cameo. The soundtrack is by Andrew Hulshult, marking his first film score.

During production, Fischbach said the film would feature the largest amount of fake blood in horror movie history, surpassing Evil Dead’s 50,000 gallons. He even required medical attention after getting too much fake blood in his eyes. Despite challenges, he completed filming by the end of April 2023 and began post-production immediately afterward.

In July 2023, Fischbach noted that production was delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, but by June 2024, he announced the film was “officially done.” He also shared that he turned down a role in Five Nights at Freddy’s to focus on Iron Lung because of scheduling conflicts.

The official trailer dropped on Fischbach’s YouTube channel on October 14, 2023, giving fans their first full look at the movie. Iron Lung is set for a theatrical release in the United States on January 30, 2026.

This project is a major step for Markiplier, moving from online interactive films to a full theatrical release. It shows his commitment to creative control, as he handled nearly every aspect of the production. The new trailer gives a chilling glimpse into the world he’s created.
