Bridgerton season 4 is shaping up to be one of the show’s most emotional and dramatic chapters yet.

New details shared with Entertainment Weekly reveal that the upcoming season will lean heavily into romance, class tension, and big emotional risks as Benedict Bridgerton finally takes center stage.

The new season will be released in two parts on Netflix. The first batch of episodes arrives on Jan. 29, followed by the second part on Feb. 26. As with past seasons, the story shifts focus to a different Bridgerton sibling. This time, it is Benedict, played by Luke Thompson, whose life changes after a chance encounter at a masquerade ball.

According to writer, producer, and showrunner Jess Brownell, the season draws inspiration from classic fairy tale ideas but twists them in a more modern way.

She explained to Entertainment Weekly that the story begins with a familiar setup but quickly moves beyond it. “We start with a character trope that we’ve seen a million times before, which is a maid who falls for someone above her station,” Brownell said. “But in the case of Sophie Baek, she is no such thing.”

Sophie, played by Yerin Ha, is introduced as a strong and determined young woman who works as a maid but dreams of more. Brownell made it clear that Sophie is not written as someone waiting to be rescued. Instead, she is someone trying to take control of her own future and make brave choices despite her limited options.

Season 4 is based on Julia Quinn’s novel An Offer From a Gentleman, which Brownell called the easiest Bridgerton book to adapt so far. She said the story naturally fits television and provides plenty of drama and emotional tension. “There are just a lot of rich set pieces that gave us juicy conflict and high stakes,” she shared, adding that fans of the book will recognize several key moments on screen.

Based on everything revealed so far, season 4 looks like a strong step forward for Bridgerton. Focusing on class differences and personal growth gives the show fresh energy while keeping the romance fans expect. Benedict and Sophie’s story feels emotional, grounded, and full of tension in the best way.
