A new movie based on A Christmas Carol is moving forward with a major cast and a clear release plan. Paramount is behind the project, which is called Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol. The film stars Johnny Depp as Ebenezer Scrooge and is set to arrive in theaters on November 13, 2026.

Several well-known actors have now joined the cast. Rupert Grint, Daisy Ridley, Sam Claflin, Charlie Murphy, Arthur Conti, and Ellie Bamber are all part of the film.

They join previously announced cast members Andrea Riseborough, Ian McKellen, and Tramell Tillman. The studio has not shared details about most of the roles yet, though industry sources say Grint is expected to play Bob Cratchit, Scrooge’s loyal employee.

The movie is directed by Ti West, known for his work in darker and more intense storytelling. The script was written by Nathaniel Halpern, and Emma Watts is producing. Executive producers include Stephen Deuters, Jason Forman, Adam Bohling, and David Reid. The information was confirmed through studio sources connected to Paramount.

The story follows the familiar Charles Dickens tale about a bitter man who is forced to face his life after visits from spirits tied to his past, present, and future. This version is described as a darker ghost story set in old London, with a strong focus on redemption and second chances.

This is not the only new take on the classic story in development. Another version is also in the works at Warner Bros., with Robert Eggers directing and Willem Dafoe expected to play Scrooge. That makes this the second major A Christmas Carol project announced this year.
