James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash is expected to pass the $500 million mark worldwide today, just days after its debut. The film opened to $347 million globally and then added nearly $150 million between Monday and Wednesday, surprising industry analysts with its strong early performance.

The movie has already outpaced the legs of Cameron’s previous hit, Avatar: The Way of Water, and is now on track to reach $1 billion before its third weekend in theaters.

As of December 23, the film has earned $129.6 million in the United States and Canada. Internationally, it has pulled in $353.6 million, bringing the worldwide total to $483.3 million.

Before its U.S. release, industry projections had estimated an opening weekend between $340 million and $380 million globally. The film ultimately surpassed expectations with its $347 million worldwide debut.

In North America, Fire and Ash earned $12 million during Thursday previews, slightly below the $17 million earned by The Way of Water. Its opening weekend domestic gross reached $89.2 million, topping the 2009 Avatar debut of $77 million but falling short of the $134.1 million opening of its 2022 predecessor.

Despite the mixed domestic comparison, the strong international numbers have helped the film achieve a rapid milestone, proving the continued global appetite for the Avatar franchise. Analysts now expect the movie to maintain momentum and reach the billion-dollar mark ahead of schedule.

With its strong international performance and growing fan enthusiasm, Avatar: Fire and Ash is already proving to be a major box office success. It will be interesting to see how high it climbs before the end of the year. What do you think, will it surpass $1 billion faster than predicted? Share your thoughts in the comments.
