Millie Bobby Brown’s Emotional Reaction to the ‘Stranger Things’ Finale Will Break Your Heart
Many Stranger Things fans were emotional watching the series finale, and Millie Bobby Brown felt the same way.
The actress, who played Eleven, recently shared an Instagram video showing her reaction to one of the final scenes from the show.
In the clip, Brown is inside a recording booth while working on ADR, a normal part of TV production where actors re-record dialogue to improve sound. As the scene plays, she starts crying and struggles to get through the moment.
In the video, Brown can be heard thanking the people around her. “Thank you for all the years. I appreciate it,” she says, clearly overwhelmed. She then adds quietly, “F****. This damn show!” Brown captioned the post, “Watching THAT scene for the first time.” The video was shared directly on her Instagram account.
The Stranger Things finale gave Eleven two major goodbye moments. In the first one, she decides to stay behind in the Upside Down as it begins to collapse. She does this to avoid being hunted and experimented on for the rest of her life. Before letting go, she connects with Mike using her powers so they can say goodbye without speaking.
Later in the episode, Eleven appears to die. After this, Mike and the rest of the group deal with the loss in their own way. During one last game of Dungeons & Dragons, Mike suggests that Eleven might still be alive. He wonders if she could have faked her death with help from her sister Kali, who can create illusions. This leaves open the idea that Eleven escaped without anyone knowing.
The show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, spoke about the ending in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Matt explained why the finale was left unclear. “The ending, we wanted it to be from Mike’s point of view and the kids’ point of view,” he said.
“So they don’t know, and because they don’t know, the audience doesn’t know.” He added that Eleven’s choice was still powerful no matter what happened to her. “Either she’s dead or she’s left her friends behind for a different life,” he said, calling her decision brave and heroic.
Ross Duffer said the unclear ending was done on purpose. “Our goal, our hope is to leave it up to the fans,” he explained, saying viewers should decide what they believe just like the characters do.
Not everyone involved with the show agrees on the meaning of the ending. Sadie Sink, who played Max, shared her opinion during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “What do I think? I think she’s dead,” she said. “Is that a hot take or something?”
The final season of Stranger Things is now streaming on Netflix, and judging by the reactions from both fans and cast members, the ending is still hitting hard.
