Piers Morgan has revealed that he is recovering in the hospital after a serious fall that required surgery. The 60-year-old commentator shared updates about the accident on X and Instagram on Sunday, January 18, giving his followers a look at the incident and his recovery process.

Morgan explained that he tripped on a small step while at a hotel restaurant in London, which caused him to fracture his femur. The injury was severe enough that he needed a new hip. “So badly I needed [a] new hip. Recovering in hospital. Crutches for 6wks,” he wrote. He added that he will need to avoid long flights for 12 weeks. “No long-haul for 12 wks. New Year off to a cracking start!”

He included a selfie from his hospital bed showing him giving a thumbs-up, with an IV and oxygen visible. In his usual humorous style, Morgan blamed President Donald Trump for the accident. “I blame Donald Trump,” he joked. He also shared an x-ray image of his fracture, which showed the break near the hip joint.

Morgan admitted that the fall was both painful and embarrassing. He told one follower, “The shame of it all is worse than the pain!” and described how he fell like a “sack of potatoes.”

This is not the first time Morgan has shared hospital updates with his audience in a humorous way. In 2019, he was hospitalized due to stomach issues, including gastritis and duodenitis, which he blamed partly on eating a vegan sausage roll and jokingly on Brexit and Trump.

At the time, he wrote, “Monday, 6:40am: I eat one mouthful of vegan sausage roll. Friday, 11am: hospitalized for gastroscopy on inflamed, exploding innards. I’m doing the maths.” He also joked about sedation during the procedure: “I can’t remember a damn thing about it. Sedatives are my new best friend.”

Recently, Morgan made headlines for a September interview with the late Rob Reiner, just months before Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner were found dead. During the interview, Morgan said, “I’m not expecting this to happen anytime soon, Rob, you’re looking like a fine, healthy figure of a man. But should the moment come when we need to remember the work of Rob Reiner, which is the one for you, of everything that you’ve ever done, that you’d most like to be remembered for?”

Reiner responded, “People have their favorites, the cliche [is], we love all our children, even the bad ones. I always say, Stand by Me, to me, is the one that meant the most to me.”

Tragically, three months after the interview, authorities found Rob and Michele Reiner dead in their home. Their son, Nick Reiner, 32, was arrested the following day and remains in custody without bail.

Piers Morgan’s latest hospitalization shows that even public figures face sudden health challenges. Despite the pain and recovery, he has maintained his sense of humor and kept his fans updated.
