Hilaria Baldwin is refusing to stay silent after online trolls criticized her daughter’s wardrobe choices. On Monday, January 19, the mother of seven took to Instagram to address negative comments regarding her 12-year-old daughter, Carmen. The controversy began after Hilaria posted a clip of Carmen doing a voiceover with her younger sisters.

In the video, the pre-teen was wearing a simple outfit consisting of a white tank top, a beige skirt, and black tights. While the video was intended to be a fun family moment, some viewers focused entirely on the clothing. One user expressed outrage in the comments section regarding the parenting choices.

The critic wrote, “How on earth do you let a 12 y/o dress like this … EVERYTHING!” Hilaria decided to turn this specific criticism into a broader teaching moment about society and female psychology. She uploaded a nearly five-minute response video to explain her perspective on the matter.

She introduced her thesis by saying, “Hi I’m Hilaria Baldwin, and I want to talk about how this comment relates to Pi, the patriarchy, and keeping us all very sad.” She claimed that she has learned from scientists and feminists about why these negative reactions occur. Hilaria used the concept of a “pie” to explain how women are conditioned to view each other as competition.

Hilaria explained that people often believe there are limited resources, causing them to fight for their share. She described a mindset where people feel they “Gotta knock them out of the way” to get their slice. She firmly stated, “This is not true,” before breaking down what she calls the “life cycles of being female.”

She categorized women into three stages: babies/little girls, women in their prime, and elderly women. She labeled childhood and old age as the “safe zone” because these groups are not seen as threats. “When we’re babies and little girls, it’s a safe zone, right? They don’t intimidate, they don’t want pie,” she noted.

However, she noted that women in their prime are in the “not safe zone.” She explained that this is where “the pie eating is happening,” which leads to intimidation and insecurity among others. She argued that older women are safe again because society assumes “there’s no more pie again” for them.

Hilaria argued that shaming is not the correct way to protect children as they enter these uncomfortable transition phases. She insisted that she educates her children privately about safety rather than performing for the internet. “The way to take care of them is not through Instagram comments or shaming,” she asserted.

She defended Carmen’s outfit specifically, noting the girl has dressed like that her entire life. She asked the critics directly, “So why is it making you uncomfortable?” Hilaria believes that women do more harm to one another with these comments than they realize.

She urged women to stop tearing each other down and to realize there is enough success and happiness for everyone. She concluded that women should be “on the same team” and willing to share their “recipe” for the pie. Her message was ultimately one of inclusivity rather than judgment.

The Baldwin family is no stranger to living their lives in the public eye. Hilaria and her husband, actor Alec Baldwin, share a bustling household with seven children. In addition to Carmen, they are parents to Rafael, Leonardo, Romeo, Eduardo, Maria Lucia, and Ilaria.

The couple has been married since 2012 and frequently documents their chaotic family life on social media. Alec Baldwin remains one of Hollywood’s most recognizable figures with a decades-long career. He is widely known for his Emmy-winning role as Jack Donaghy on the NBC sitcom 30 Rock.

He also has a long history of hosting Saturday Night Live and starring in films like Beetlejuice and The Hunt for Red October. The actor has recently been navigating the legal aftermath of the tragic Rust shooting incident. However, he saw a major legal victory when the involuntary manslaughter case against him was dismissed in July 2024.

Hilaria has worked as a yoga instructor and has authored books on wellness. She has also hosted podcasts, including Witches Anonymous, where she discusses women’s issues and relationships. The couple continues to reside primarily in New York, splitting time between the city and the Hamptons.

We want to know if you think Hilaria’s “pie” analogy makes sense or if the criticism of the outfit was valid, so please leave your opinion in the comments.
