Rebecca Ferguson Reveals the Crazy Reason She Asked Tom Cruise for a Helicopter

becca Ferguson isn’t like most people when she gets sick on vacation. While most of us would call the hotel front desk or find a local doctor, the 42-year-old actress had a very different plan. She recently told The Independent that when she fell seriously ill on a trip to the Maldives, her first instinct was to call none other than Tom Cruise.

Ferguson explained, “I called him once when I was in the Maldives when I had a really bad stomach.” At the time, she was terrified about what was going on. She thought it could be something serious, joking that she initially believed it was “a big worm” inside her.

Her husband, Rory St Clair Gainer, came up with a bold solution. “Tom can get a helicopter,” he told her, and Ferguson decided to make the call. She recalled, “I was like, ‘Can I get a helicopter?’ It was quite a funny thing.”

Thankfully, the situation wasn’t as scary as she thought. It turned out she was suffering from gastroenteritis. She laughed about the whole ordeal, saying, “I’m giving you too much information.”

Ferguson’s friendship with Cruise has grown over years of working together in the Mission: Impossible movies. She first appeared as MI6 agent Ilsa Faust in Rogue Nation in 2015, then reprised the role in Fallout in 2018 and Dead Reckoning in 2023. This close relationship clearly made her feel comfortable asking the action star for emergency help.

Outside of Mission: Impossible, Ferguson has been busy building a diverse career. She received critical acclaim for playing Lady Jessica in Dune (2021) and Dune: Part Two (2024), and starred in films like Doctor Sleep, Life, and the political thriller A House of Dynamite (2025). On TV, she leads the Apple TV+ dystopian series Silo, about residents trapped in a subterranean city with 144 floors.

Ferguson is now promoting her latest thriller, Mercy, alongside Chris Pratt.
