2025 Horror Film Makes Oscar History as the Most-Nominated Movie of All Time

Hollywood has a new champion when it comes to awards season. The vampire horror movie Sinners has officially made history. According to the recent announcement regarding the 98th Academy Awards nominations, this film has broken the record for the most nominations ever for a single movie. It received a massive 16 nods from the voters.

This number beats the old record of 14 nominations. That record was previously held by famous movies like All About Eve, Titanic, and La La Land. The new record for Sinners was helped by the addition of a new award category for best casting. It is a very big achievement for the film, especially since horror movies do not usually perform this well at award ceremonies.

The vampire movie finished ahead of its closest rival. Leonardo DiCaprio’s thriller One Battle After Another is right behind it with 13 chances to win. While Sinners deals with racism in the American South, the runner-up film is about a revolutionary fighting against a strict government in the United States.

Sinners stars Michael B. Jordan. He plays twin brothers who go back to Mississippi in the 1930s. They try to open a music club, but they get attacked by vampires. The Academy nominated Michael B. Jordan for best actor. British star Wunmi Mosaku is up for best supporting actress. Ryan Coogler is nominated for best director. The film is also competing for the biggest prize of the night, which is best picture.

The rival film One Battle After Another also has a lot of acting nominations. Leonardo DiCaprio is up for best actor for his role. The supporting cast was recognized too. Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn, and Teyana Taylor all received nominations. Paul Thomas Anderson is also on the list for best director.

There are other big stars hoping to win trophies as well. Timothée Chalamet is hoping to finally win on his third try. He is nominated for the movie Marty Supreme. Irish actress Jessie Buckley is considered the frontrunner to win best actress for the movie Hamnet. However, her co-star Paul Mescal was left out. He played William Shakespeare in the film but did not get a nomination.

Some movies had a very bad morning. The film Wicked: For Good was completely ignored. Stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande did not get any nominations at all.

Even though Sinners has the most nominations, it might not win best picture. In the last 21 years, the movie with the most nominations has only won the top award six times. One Battle After Another has been the favorite to win for a long time. It could still beat Sinners when the ceremony happens.

This news is great for the studio Warner Bros. They made both of the top two movies. This comes at a time when the studio is being sold, possibly to Netflix. We will find out who wins very soon. The awards ceremony will take place in Hollywood on March 15.
