Martha Stewart is finally addressing the long-running rumors about plastic surgery. The 84-year-old lifestyle icon is promoting her new skincare line, Elm Biosciences, and is taking the chance to explain how she keeps her skin looking youthful.

Everybody insists that I’ve had plastic surgery and I have not ever had plastic surgery, Stewart told People in an interview on January 23. I’m the most honest person on earth — but if they won’t take my word for it, I don’t know. How can they not take my word for it? That’s the truth!

Stewart is clear that she has never had a facelift or any cosmetic surgery. She does, however, admit that she once had a plastic surgeon perform a repair after a serious accident.

About ten years ago, Stewart was injured by one of her French bulldogs. She didn’t bite me. She bashed my lip into my tooth and split it from my lip almost all the way to my nose and blood started gushing out all over the dog, Stewart explained. The injury was severe enough that she missed an appearance on Today, the only time she has ever missed a scheduled event in her career.

After being rushed to the hospital in a snowstorm, Stewart asked for a plastic surgeon to help her heal properly. I get to the hospital and I think they did 16 stitches in my lip. I can’t call that plastic surgery, that is a repair, she said. It’s a terrible, terrible, terrible split lip… you cannot see. I healed so well. That is the extent of a plastic surgeon working on my face.

Stewart is starting 2026 with a busy schedule. She recently celebrated “Dry January” and told TMZ she feels great going booze-free. Her lifestyle brand is also launching a new home design collaboration this year, focusing on antique touches and black-and-gold interior trends.

In addition, Stewart is opening her second restaurant on March 14. The Bedford by Martha Stewart at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut will feature comfort food favorites inspired by her New York farmhouse, including her smashed baked potatoes and herb-roasted chicken.

Her retail lines are also thriving. Stewart’s modern farmhouse furniture is selling fast, and she continues sharing updates on her farm, including her Friesian horses, Ulysses and Stewart. Between launching a restaurant, releasing new skincare, and caring for her animals, Stewart shows no signs of slowing down.

Do you think Martha Stewart’s explanation about her lip repair and her focus on skincare fully explains her youthful look, or do the plastic surgery rumors still linger? Share your thoughts in the comments.
