Marcello Hernández has made it clear that he is not playing the field. During a recent guest appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast, the Saturday Night Live star found himself being playfully interrogated by host Dax Shepard about a potential romance with pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter. Shepard, who confessed to a recent obsession with the singer, suggested that if he were in the comedian’s shoes, he would be doing everything possible to marry her.

The 28-year-old comedian quickly shut down the hypothetical scenario by revealing he is already in a committed relationship. I’m in a relationship, Hernández clarified. Yeah, I’m in a relationship with a Dominican girl. She’s an architect. She’s unreal. She went to Yale.

Reports indicate that Hernández is dating Ana Amelia Batlle Cabral, and the pair has been seen together at high-profile events for some time. They were recently spotted at an afterparty for The Phoenician Scheme in May, and they made their relationship red-carpet official at the Happy Gilmore 2 premiere last July. While he isn’t looking for love elsewhere, Hernández had nothing but kind words for his frequent collaborator.

He praised Carpenter’s comedic timing and work ethic, noting that she has been a fantastic addition to the sketches they have worked on together at Studio 8H. Sabrina’s really, like, she’s down, she’s down to clown. She’s down to think of something funny. She’s an actress, he told Shepard. He described the “Espresso” singer as awesome and really funny and cool, highlighting the creative chemistry they share.

The duo notably collaborated on the viral “Domingo” sketches, which have become a staple of Hernández’s run on the late-night show. Carpenter even brought the bit to her Short n’ Sweet tour, playfully “arresting” the comedian during her Los Angeles performance in late 2024. While the professional bond is strong, Hernández emphasized that any rumors of a real-life wedding were purely part of a clever marketing strategy.

Earlier this month, fans were sent into a frenzy when the comedian posted a black-and-white video of himself suiting up for what looked like a wedding. The footage featured him in a tuxedo and sharing a sweet moment with his mother, leading many to believe he was about to tie the knot. However, he soon revealed the video was actually a teaser for his debut stand-up special, Marcello Hernández: American Boy, which launched on Netflix on January 7.

As of early 2026, Marcello Hernández’s career is reaching new heights as he remains a core cast member of Saturday Night Live. Beyond the sketch comedy world, he is expanding into feature films with a major supporting role in the upcoming Netflix movie 72 Hours, starring alongside comedy legend Kevin Hart. The film is expected to serve as his live-action movie debut, though he is also lending his voice to the animated sequel The Angry Birds Movie 3.

Do you think Marcello’s viral “Domingo” character is the best new addition to the SNL lineup in years, or are you hoping to see him branch out into even more serious acting roles? Share your thoughts in the comments.
