Margot Robbie has people talking after a short comment she made on the red carpet ended up sparking big relationship rumors.

The moment happened at the Los Angeles premiere of Wuthering Heights. While speaking to the media on the red carpet, Robbie was asked who she would want to see the film with in cinemas. Her answer seemed lighthearted, but one part quickly caught fans off guard.

She explained that the movie is coming out just before Valentine’s Day for a reason. If it was me, I’d want to go with all my girlfriends on a Friday night, I’d want to have cocktails, maybe dress up a little bit, she said. She then added, Then I’d go with my husband… or whoever, on Valentine’s Day. So it felt like the perfect weekend to release it.

That small phrase, or whoever, was enough to send fans into speculation mode. Some people online began wondering if Robbie might be hinting at an open relationship with her husband, Tom Ackerley.

The clip was later shared by The Hollywood Reporter on TikTok, where fans quickly filled the comments with theories. One person pointed out that her Galentine’s-style comment felt similar to a line from Barbie, referencing tonight’s girls night, which only added fuel to the discussion.

Despite the rumors, Ackerley was also at the premiere supporting Robbie. The couple produced Wuthering Heights together through their company, LuckyChap Entertainment. The film stars Robbie alongside Jacob Elordi, with the two sharing intense and emotional scenes on screen.

Robbie and Ackerley’s relationship goes back over a decade. They met while working on a film in 2013, launched LuckyChap together in 2014, and quietly married in 2016. They welcomed their first child, a baby boy, in late 2024.

This red carpet moment comes after several playful and provocative comments Robbie has made during the film’s press tour. She previously joked that her friends were frothing at the mouth while watching a private screening. She also said that if Elordi had shown up at her character’s fake bachelorette party, her friends would have eaten him.

Robbie has not held back when praising her co-star either. She called Elordi the new Daniel Day-Lewis and admitted that the two became codependent during filming.

The movie itself is directed by Emerald Fennell and reimagines Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel as a dark, intense romance. It focuses on the destructive relationship between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff. The cast also includes Hong Chau, Shazad Latif, Alison Oliver, and Ewan Mitchell, with music by Charli XCX.

The film’s look has already caused plenty of chatter online. Robbie’s character wears Victorian lace, bold styling, and even red latex in some scenes. Robbie herself joked during interviews about leaning into a Victorian sl**** vibe.

Outside of acting, Robbie has stayed extremely busy as a producer. After the success of Barbie, she is developing a Sims movie and a Monopoly project through LuckyChap. She is also expected to reunite with Bradley Cooper for a long-rumored Ocean’s Eleven prequel set in 1960s Europe.

Wuthering Heights hits theaters on February 13. Early reactions have described it as scorching hot and tonally abrasive, drawing comparisons to Fennell’s previous film Saltburn.

Whether Robbie’s comment was just playful red carpet banter or something more, it has certainly kept attention on the film. For now, fans are left debating if the moment was a joke or a genuine slip, and the conversation shows no signs of slowing down.
