Anne Hathaway is a rare Hollywood talent who can pivot from an Oscar-winning performance to a quirky indie project without losing a shred of her signature poise. The actress recently took to Instagram to share a series of nostalgic photographs from 2015, capturing a period of her life that was as personally significant as it was professionally adventurous.

These behind-the-scenes glimpses have stunned fans, not only because she appears largely unchanged by a decade but because of the heartwarming context behind the production of one of her most underrated films.

The images date back to the filming of the 2016 genre-bending hit Colossal, directed by Nacho Vigalondo. At the time, Hathaway was expecting her first child with husband Adam Shulman, and the production took the family to Canada for a shoot that she remembers with immense fondness. In 2015 while pregnant with our first baby, Adam and I went with our pups to Vancouver to make @nacho_vigalondo’s wonderfully insane kaiju movie Colossal co-starring a brilliant and pre-Ted Lasso Jason Sudekis, she shared with her followers.

Hathaway’s reflection on the film was filled with gratitude for the creative environment and her fellow cast members. We all had a blast- the awesome @nina was even there for Halloween- and it is both one of my favorite movies I have ever been in and one of the best times I have ever had on set, she added. The film, which blended a dark exploration of alcoholism with giant monster spectacle, remains a high-water mark for the actress’s ability to tackle experimental storytelling.

Despite the critical acclaim, Hathaway was quick to poke fun at the movie’s original performance in theaters with her trademark wit. When it arrived in theatres in 2017, it shattered box office records and became the shining hope of all low-budget indies that if you stick to your guns, you can make it big and transcend it all. Jk, no one saw it, she joked. However, the actress noted that the film has been given a second life now that it has officially landed on Netflix.

BUT it just landed on Netflix!! So if you have the inclination, maybe 2026 is finally Colossal’s year, she wrote, encouraging her audience to revisit the project. She stood by the film’s quality, reminding fans that it remains a favorite for both her and critics. It’s funny and strange and silly/smart and great (just my opinion… and 82% of critics on RT so…) Hope you give it a go! Stay weird!

Hathaway has certainly remained busy in the years since that Vancouver shoot, and 2026 is shaping up to be one of the biggest years of her career. She is set to star in the highly anticipated Mother Mary, an A24 psychological thriller where she portrays a pop superstar alongside Michaela Coel. Additionally, she is reuniting with Christopher Nolan for his epic adaptation of The Odyssey, featuring a massive ensemble including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, and Zendaya.

Nostalgia will also play a major role in her upcoming slate, as she is officially returning for both The Devil Wears Prada 2 and The Princess Diaries 3. Beyond these sequels, she will lead the cast of Verity, based on the best-selling novel by Colleen Hoover, and the sci-fi thriller Flowervale Street with Ewan McGregor. From prestige drama to blockbusters, Hathaway continues to define herself as a versatile icon who isn’t afraid to take risks.

Her ability to look back on her “stranger” projects with such pride shows a performer who values artistic expression over pure box office numbers. While Colossal might have been a quiet release in 2017, its arrival on streaming platforms allows a new generation to discover its weird, wonderful heart. As Hathaway prepares for a record-breaking 2026, it is clear that her dedication to staying “weird” has only made her more of a powerhouse in the industry.

Let us know if you think Colossal is one of Anne’s most underrated performances or if you are more excited for her upcoming sequels in the comments.
