Wiz Khalifa’s Father Dies at 63 Leaving Family Heartbroken
Wiz Khalifa is navigating a difficult period of personal loss following the sudden passing of his father, Laurence W. Thomaz. The rapper, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, shared the somber news on Friday, February 13, describing the moment as one of quiet transition.
He noted that his father decided not to wake up that morning, passing away like a true yogi who was entirely at peace and on his own schedule. The bond between the two was instrumental in shaping the multi-platinum artist we know today.
Laurence, a veteran of the Air Force, provided more than just emotional support; he laid the literal groundwork for his son’s career by opening a recording studio in Pittsburgh. Wiz has often reflected on those early years, admitting that he lived in that studio as a child, an experience that forged his identity and work ethic.
In a series of heartfelt tributes, Wiz expressed deep gratitude for the lessons his father instilled in him over the years. He shared that seeing the outpouring of love and respect from the community has brought him a sense of comfort during the grieving process. I know he’s proud that he left a positive impact on this earth, the rapper wrote, adding that such a legacy was literally all he ever wanted.
Rest in peace to your father 💛

The loss comes at a time of significant transition and success for the 38-year-old artist. Just last month, on January 16, Wiz released his ninth studio album, Khaotic, which featured collaborations with long-time peers like Juicy J and 2 Chainz. The project served as a follow-up to his highly successful 2025 release.
Beyond the music charts, Wiz has recently made a major splash in the film industry. He starred as 2wo-3ree in the gritty Chicago crime drama Moses the Black, which premiered in theaters nationwide on January 30.
Not only did he take on a leading role alongside Omar Epps and Quavo, but he also served as the executive producer for the film’s original soundtrack, fulfilling a promise to his father to continue expanding his acting portfolio. On the personal front, Wiz continues to embrace his role as a dedicated father of two.
He recently celebrated Valentine’s Day by penning a note of appreciation to his long-time girlfriend, Aimee Aguilar, thanking her for her unwavering support during this difficult week. The couple welcomed their daughter, Kaydence, in July 2024, adding to the family that includes Wiz’s 12-year-old son, Sebastian, from his previous marriage to Amber Rose.
