Zendaya and Robert Pattinson recently sat down for their first interview about The Drama, Kristoffer Borgli’s intense new romance film that pairs the two actors as a couple in turmoil.

The conversation, conducted over Zoom with Zendaya at home and Pattinson on vacation, had a casual and funny tone. Both were relaxed and not in the usual promotional mode. Zendaya even mentioned she was “deep cleaning my bathroom” while chatting, while Pattinson admitted he was “wired on caffeine.”

The actors reflected on how they first met and their impressions of each other. Zendaya said, “You were always pretty quiet and chill… I was like, ‘Ooh, mysterious!’” Pattinson joked about his reputation for intensity, adding, “I wish I could stay in the mysterious… but I just can’t maintain it.” They spoke about preconceived notions, with Pattinson calling Zendaya a positive role model for young fans: “You always seemed really nice and you are really nice.”

Let’s be upfront with the crazy.” Pattinson shared his perspective on romance in films, mentioning movies like Two Lovers and The Big Blue, noting that the most romantic stories often involve heartbreak. Zendaya agreed, adding that life itself is filled with loss, so love and loss often go together.

Both actors reflected on being public figures and how it affects their work. Zendaya praised Pattinson’s ability to keep private, saying, “You have an extraordinary ability to transform. I’ve seen you do it from the outside and from the inside.” Pattinson explained how fame has influenced his approach to acting, especially after Twilight, saying, “It’s interesting to use the public perception of you as part of your character development… you never really know what people are thinking.”

The interview also touched on their recent collaboration experiences. They have worked together on three films in a row: The Drama, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three. Zendaya said she appreciated how their directors balance collaboration and clarity on set. Pattinson added, “In the rehearsal, he was like, ‘Let’s all discuss stuff, but I will tell you when you’re wrong.’”

The discussion was paired with a high-fashion photoshoot for Interview Magazine, where both stars showcased bold looks in blonde wigs and full leather outfits. The photoshoot captured their chemistry and playfulness, highlighting their off-screen friendship alongside their on-screen partnership.

In the end, both actors agreed that first interviews are always tricky, with Zendaya noting, “This is our first interview… it’s going to be all over the place.” Pattinson added humorously, “They see this interview in combination with the photo shoot and it’s like, what are they talking about?”
