Bebe Rexha is taking a trip down memory lane to a particularly uninhibited evening in Japan that ultimately became the creative spark for her latest music. The 36-year-old singer recently opened up about a wild night in Tokyo that occurred just after Halloween, leading to a spontaneous connection with a stranger.

During an appearance on Page Six Radio, the Grammy nominee recounted how she felt the urge to hit the town after the holiday and found herself at a crowded nightclub. According to Rexha, she was positioned right behind the DJ booth when she noticed a group at a nearby table.

She recalled that a young woman approached her and the two began dancing, grinding on each other as the energy of the club took over. The interaction quickly intensified when the woman started making out with me, an experience that Rexha described as part of the best night ever.

The encounter was so memorable that she decided to immortalize it in her songwriting. Her track “Tokyo” features a direct nod to the evening with the lyric, I kissed a girl in Tokyo, and she admitted the event left her feeling inspired to write a song about it.

Interestingly, Rexha later discovered that the woman was actually a fan, leading her to humorously question her audience if the situation felt weird. When the conversation shifted to her personal life and whether she would consider a long-term relationship with someone from her fanbase, Rexha remained open-minded.

She told the hosts that she didn’t want to dismiss the possibility because you never know what the future holds. For now, the story serves as a bold introduction to her new musical era, where she is leaning into a more unfiltered and authentic narrative.

The song “Tokyo” is set to be a standout track on Rexha’s upcoming fourth studio album, Dirty Blonde, which is scheduled for release on June 12. This project marks a significant turning point in her career, as it is her first full-length release since becoming an independent artist and partnering with the label EMPIRE.

To build anticipation, she recently released a four-minute “supercut” of all 13 songs on the record, a creative megamix produced by Diplo that features snippets of a music video for every single track. Beyond the recording studio, Rexha has been making the rounds on the talk show circuit, recently appearing on The Jennifer Hudson Show in a floor-length, high-slit gown.

During her interview, she got emotional while discussing her “manifestations” and her desire to finally find true love after achieving her musical dreams. She also teased a massive world tour of arenas and amphitheaters to support the new album, which she describes as her most fearless, loud, and unapologetic work to date.

Fans of her earlier hits like “I’m Good (Blue)” will find a familiar energy in her lead single, “I Like You Better Than Me,” which has already begun climbing the charts this February. As she prepares for the full rollout of Dirty Blonde, Rexha is clearly prioritizing creative freedom and a “no filters” approach to her art.
