We are only halfway through February, and barely six weeks into the year, yet Netflix has already unleashed a flurry of major renewal and cancellation announcements. The streaming giant has wasted no time in clearing its slate, officially axing three series while leaving another popular lifestyle show teetering on the edge of a rumored departure.

While some fan-favorite dramas like The Lincoln Lawyer and Emily in Paris have secured their futures, several other high-profile projects are preparing to take their final bows before the year is out. The most recent casualty is the animated sci-fi hit Terminator Zero, which was officially canceled on February 13, after only one season.

Despite earning high praise from critics and long-term fans of the franchise, the decision ultimately came down to the cold reality of viewership numbers. Series creator Mattson Tomlin shared that while the response was tremendous, it simply didn’t attract a large enough audience to justify the cost.

He lamented that he would’ve loved to deliver on the multi-season war epic he had mapped out, though he remains proud of how the first season stands as a self-contained story. Western fans also received disappointing news on January 21, when Netflix confirmed that The Abandons would not return for a second season.

Starring industry heavyweights Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson, the gritty drama followed two rival families fighting over a valuable piece of land in the 1850s. Despite the star power and the pedigree of creator Kurt Sutter, the “haves and have-nots” struggle failed to find a permanent home on the platform.

That same day, The Vince Staples Show was also sent to the chopping block after a two-season run, ending the rapper’s satirical and surreal journey through his haunted past. There is also growing uncertainty surrounding the lifestyle series With Love, Meghan, produced by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.

While an official statement has not yet been released, industry insiders suggest that the show will likely conclude after its current run rather than moving forward with a third season. The program has focused on practical life tips and candid conversations, but reports indicate that the Duchess may be shifting her focus toward other creative ventures.

On a brighter note, several heavy hitters have locked in their returns, including the mind-bending anthology Black Mirror. Creator Charlie Brooker personally confirmed that an eighth season is in development, jokingly noting that the show will return just as reality catches up with it.

Additionally, the romantic comedy Emily in Paris has been renewed for a sixth season following its successful fifth-season debut in Rome. Fans can also look forward to more of the Russo sisters, as the figure skating drama Finding Her Edge was greenlit for a second season earlier this month.

As for the actors involved in these shifting projects, many are already moving on to new chapters in their careers. Mattson Tomlin is currently busy with the screenplay for The Batman Part II, while Lena Headey is set to star in the upcoming thriller Svalbard.

Gillian Anderson is also remaining in the Netflix family, recently finishing production on a new limited series titled The Salt Path. Vince Staples, meanwhile, has been seen focusing on his music career, with a major North American tour scheduled to kick off in the summer.

The year will also mark the end of an era for two of Netflix’s most consistent performers. The coming-of-age treasure hunt Outer Banks is confirmed to end with its upcoming fifth season, which is expected to premiere later this year.

Furthermore, the beloved reality series Queer Eye released its tenth and final season in January, featuring the Fab Five taking their final “make-better” mission to Washington, D.C. With so many shifts happening so early in the year, subscribers should stay tuned as the streaming landscape continues to evolve.
