The Movies Getting Parodied in ‘Scary Movie 6’ Have Been Revealed

Fans of slapstick horror can finally mark their calendars as the long-dormant parody franchise prepares for a massive theatrical comeback. Although the world hasn’t seen a new installment since 2013, Miramax officially greenlit a sequel in April 2025, with a scheduled release date set for June 12.

This revival is particularly significant because it brings the Wayans brothers back into the fold to lead the production, reuniting the creative force that launched the series into a global phenomenon.

Marlon Wayans has already begun teasing the potential targets for their satirical lens, suggesting that a new generation of horror is ripe for the picking. He hinted that the film might lampoon recent genre hits like Heretic, Longlegs, and Smile, while also revisiting classics like I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Other reports suggest the script will take aim at the intense tension of A Quiet Place and the gore of Terrifier 3, ensuring that both prestige horror and slasher fans have something to laugh at.

The upcoming sixth entry will see the return of the franchise’s most beloved comedic duo, as Anna Faris and Regina Hall are set to reprise their roles as Cindy Campbell and Brenda Meeks.

Joining them is a stacked roster of original cast members, including Marlon and Shawn Wayans, Dave Sheridan, and Chris Elliott. This reunion marks a major turning point for the creators, who famously left the series after the second film due to behind-the-scenes conflicts with the original studio heads.

Marlon Wayans recently opened up about their departure, explaining that the brothers felt disrespected by the business terms offered for the third installment. He noted that the producers offered them the same crappy deal they had received for the initial films despite the franchise’s massive success.

Reflecting on the predatory nature of those negotiations, Wayans even suggested that he and his brothers were essentially molested in those deals, referring to the questionable practices of the now-disgraced Harvey Weinstein.

The return of the Wayans family is a relief for fans who felt the later entries lacked the sharp, irreverent edge of the first two movies, which helped the franchise gross nearly $900 million worldwide.

Rick Alvarez, a frequent collaborator with the brothers on projects like A Haunted House, is co-writing the screenplay to ensure the humor remains consistent with their established brand. With Paramount handling the theatrical distribution, the project is being positioned as one of the major comedy events of the summer season.

Aside from this project, the cast has been incredibly busy with various individual ventures throughout the last year. Anna Faris starred in the dark comedy The Estate and has been hosting her popular podcast, Anna Faris is Unqualified, which continues to top the charts.

Marlon Wayans has also found success in the stand-up arena, with his 2024 comedy special Good Grief receiving critical acclaim for its blend of personal storytelling and high-energy humor.

Meanwhile, the horror films being parodied in the new sequel, such as Longlegs and Nope, have themselves become massive cultural milestones, providing the perfect foundation for the Wayans’ signature brand of meta-commentary.
