Timothée Chalamet recently shared a hilariously bizarre memory from his time working with Matthew McConaughey on the set of Christopher Nolan’s 2014 sci-fi masterpiece, Interstellar.

The two actors, who portrayed father and son in the film, recently sat down for a town hall event at the University of Texas at Austin to reflect on their careers and past collaborations. During the conversation, the Dune star brought up a gross “souvenir” that McConaughey allegedly left in his trailer on his final day of filming.

Chalamet, who was just 17 during the production, recalled feeling a sense of sadness as his time on the set came to a close. However, that sentiment quickly shifted when he returned to his trailer and discovered a massive surprise waiting for him in the bathroom.

I gotta say, my last day on Interstellar, I was sad to be leaving, Chalamet told the audience before describing the sight of a large deposit left in his toilet. Initially, the young actor felt deeply insulted by the gesture, wondering which member of the crew would treat him with such blatant disregard.

He went as far as questioning the grips on set, asking if one of them had let it loose in his personal space, but they all denied involvement. It wasn’t until he approached director Christopher Nolan that the culprit was revealed, as Nolan silently pointed toward McConaughey.

McConaughey, who is now 56, reportedly met the accusation with a mischievous smirk that confirmed his guilt. When Chalamet demanded to know why he would do such a thing, the elder actor simply offered a classic piece of Texas wisdom as an explanation.

In Texas, it’s a coming of age, baby, McConaughey quipped, reframing the stinky prank as a rite of passage for his onscreen son. Now 30 years old and a three-time Oscar nominee, Chalamet can look back at the “stinky trailer prank” with a sense of humor, even calling it a true story.

The two actors have maintained a warm relationship over the decade since the film’s release, with Chalamet still referring to the Oscar winner as his “movie dad.” The prank has clearly become a legendary piece of behind-the-scenes lore for a film that remains a favorite for both performers.

As of February, Timothée Chalamet is arguably the busiest leading man in Hollywood, currently celebrating the massive success of Marty Supreme. The Josh Safdie-directed sports drama, which features Chalamet as a 1950s ping-pong hustler, hit theaters in late January to rave reviews and significant awards buzz.

The film features a unique ensemble cast, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler, the Creator, and even Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary. Looking ahead, Chalamet is set to return to Arrakis for Dune: Part Three, which is officially slated for a December 18 release.

Additionally, the actor is rumored to be in talks for a high-octane heist film directed by James Mangold, who previously directed him in the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown. Matthew McConaughey is also keeping a packed schedule, with several major projects currently in development.

He starred in The Lost Bus, a harrowing drama about the 2018 California wildfires, and is reportedly finalizing a deal with Netflix for a mysterious new series created by True Detective mastermind Nic Pizzolatto.
