Teyana Taylor is not ready to say goodbye to her most acclaimed role just yet. Following her first Academy Award nomination for her performance in the 2025 epic One Battle After Another, the actress has revealed that she is actively discussing a potential sequel or spinoff with filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.

Taylor, who portrays the complex revolutionary Perfidia Beverly Hills, explained that she is deeply interested in wanting people to fully understand who Perfidia is. She has been engaging in creative dialogues with Anderson about a project that would focus more heavily on her character’s mysterious past and the missing chapters of her life.

In the film, Perfidia is a far-left radical who ultimately betrays her group, French 75, to the military. This betrayal leads her to abandon her partner, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, and her young daughter, leaving a sixteen-year gap in the character’s history that Taylor is eager to explore.

The actress admitted to making little jokes with Paul regarding the possibility of seeing what her character was up to during those missing years. She believes there is a wealth of untapped story material regarding the character’s motivations and the eventual fate of her family connections.

Taylor specifically pointed toward the final moments of the film as a natural jumping-off point for a follow-up. I love that it’s still hopeful, and there’s room for a little part two in there somewhere, she noted, expressing a desire to see her character share more substantial screen time with her onscreen daughter.

Regarding the likelihood of a sequel, Taylor confirmed that the conversations are very, very real. She went as far as to give fans official confirmation that she is currently begging PTA to give us that, showing her immense dedication to the role and the world Anderson created.

This potential project would mark a rare move for Paul Thomas Anderson, who traditionally moves on to entirely new worlds with each film. However, the overwhelming critical response to Taylor’s performance has made the idea of a Perfidia-centric offshoot a compelling prospect for both the studio and the fans.

Teyana Taylor’s rise in Hollywood has been nothing short of meteoric over the past few years. Beyond her Oscar-nominated turn in One Battle After Another, she has been a dominant force in both independent cinema and major television productions, proving her range as a true multihyphenate.

The 35-year-old star recently wrapped production on the upcoming thriller The Rip, where she stars alongside a high-profile ensemble cast. Additionally, she is set to make her feature film directorial debut with Get Lite, a project she also wrote, which focuses on the world of New York City street dance.

In the television sphere, Taylor has been a standout in the legal drama All’s Fair, appearing alongside Kim Kardashian and Glenn Close. She is also rumored to be in talks for a leading role in a new musical biopic, which would allow her to blend her world-class choreography skills with her dramatic acting prowess.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another was one of the most discussed films of 2025, largely due to its massive scale and its star-studded cast, which included Sean Penn, Regina Hall, and Benicio del Toro. The film’s success at the box office and its dominance during the awards season have solidified it as a modern classic.

As Taylor balances her blossoming acting career with her work as a creative director and musical artist, her passion for Perfidia remains a top priority. Whether the sequel eventually lands in theaters or on a streaming platform, the actress seems determined to ensure the story of the French 75 revolutionary is fully told.
