Michael B. Jordan Takes Home First Oscar for ‘Sinners’ in One of the Most Celebrated Wins of the Night
Michael B. Jordan achieved a historic milestone at the 98th Academy Awards, taking home the Best Actor trophy for his dual performance in the supernatural horror film Sinners.
The 39-year-old actor made history as the first performer since Lee Marvin to win an Oscar for playing multiple characters in a single film. In the movie, Jordan portrays identical twins Smoke and Stack, World War I veterans who return to 1930s Mississippi only to encounter a terrifying supernatural threat.

The victory was a highly emotional moment for Jordan, who has been working in the entertainment industry for a quarter of a century. I’ve been doing this for 25 years, and there are a lot of people who have seen me grow up in this industry, he remarked backstage while reflecting on his journey.
He also expressed deep gratitude to his longtime collaborator, director Ryan Coogler, telling him from the stage, You gave me the opportunity and space to be seen. Jordan’s win was met with a thunderous standing ovation from his peers, including fellow nominees and co-stars.
During his acceptance speech, he acknowledged the Black actors who paved the way for his success, citing legends like Sidney Poitier and Denzel Washington. I stand here because of the people that came before me, Jordan said.
To be up amongst those giants, amongst those greats, amongst my ancestors, amongst my guys, thank you, everybody. The actor also emphasized his desire to serve as a role model for future generations of artists.
I’m really big on the next generation, so try to be an example, he noted. He concluded his speech with a promise to his supporters to remain dedicated to his craft and his personal growth. I’m going to keep stepping up, and I’m going to keep being the best version of myself I can be, he told the audience.

Beyond his recent Oscar success, Jordan remains one of the most prolific figures in Hollywood today. He is currently preparing to direct and star in a modern reimagining of the classic heist film The Thomas Crown Affair, which is scheduled for a March 2027 release.
The project, which is being developed for Amazon MGM Studios, will feature an impressive ensemble cast including Adria Arjona, Lily Gladstone, and Kenneth Branagh. In addition to his film work, Jordan is expanding his reach as a producer through his company, Outlier Society.
He is executive producing a highly anticipated television adaptation of the popular fantasy novel Fourth Wing for Amazon Prime. He is also set to star in the action Film Rainbow Six, which will be directed by Chad Stahelski.
