Cillian Murphy recently amused audiences with a story regarding a specific prop from the set of his latest film. The Academy Award winner returned to his most famous role in Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, which recently made its debut in theaters.

During a promotional discussion for the movie, Murphy admitted that his habit of keeping small items from the set led to a tense situation. While conversing with his co-star, Rebecca Ferguson, the actor revealed that a prop bullet once triggered an alarm at an airport.

Ferguson had jokingly asked if the actor ever “liberated” anything from his filming locations. Murphy confirmed that he possessed a single bullet that caused a significant security incident when it was discovered in his luggage.

The Swedish actress, known for her sharp wit, inquired if the item had his name on it. Murphy confirmed that it was actually inscribed with the name “Tommy” as a nod to his iconic character, Thomas Shelby.

He recalled the moment of panic when security personnel noticed the item at the bottom of his bag. “They were like, all these guys descended with guns and everything,” Murphy explained while describing the rapid response from the airport team.

In the heat of the moment, the actor found himself apologizing profusely to the armed officers. “I went ‘Oh f*ck, oh sh*t, I’m so sorry! It’s not a real bullet,’” he told Ferguson during their joint interview.

The actor clarified that the item was simply a shell casing and offered to leave it behind just to ensure he didn’t miss his departure. However, the security staff eventually allowed him to keep the memento after realizing it was a harmless piece of movie history.

Ferguson playfully attributed the easy resolution to his high-profile status in the industry. “That’s a celebrity for you. ‘Keep the bullet, Cillian,’” she quipped in response to his successful negotiation with the authorities.

The film they are currently promoting, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, serves as the grand conclusion to the long-running gangster saga. It officially arrived on Netflix on March 20, 2026, following a successful limited theatrical run that began earlier in the month.

Directed by Tom Harper and written by series creator Steven Knight, the movie finds an older Tommy Shelby living in isolation during the 1940s. His peace is shattered when he is pulled back into the fray to confront the rising threat of fascism during World War II.

Rebecca Ferguson plays a dual role in the film as identical twins, Kaulo and Zelda, who serve as a bridge between Tommy’s past and his current mission. The cast also features Barry Keoghan as Tommy’s son, Duke, alongside returning stars like Sophie Rundle and Stephen Graham.

Outside of the Birmingham underworld, Murphy has been keeping a very active schedule throughout the early months of the year. The actor is set to star in the upcoming historical drama Blood Runs Coal, where he will portray a labor leader seeking justice.

His production company, Big Things Films, is currently developing several new projects focused on character-driven narratives. Rebecca Ferguson is equally busy, with her sci-fi thriller Mercy recently moving to home video platforms after a January theatrical release.

She is also slated to appear in the fantasy epic The Magic Faraway Tree later this year alongside Andrew Garfield. As the Peaky Blinders story finally reaches its definitive end on streaming platforms, the film’s transition to Netflix ensures that the Shelby legacy will remain accessible to a global audience for many years to come.
