Epic Games is cutting more than 1,000 jobs from its team. This news comes from an internal message sent by the company CEO, Tim Sweeney. He explained that the company is currently spending a lot more money than it is making.

The main reason for these cuts is that fewer people are playing Fortnite lately. This drop in players started in 2025 and has made it hard for the company to stay funded. To fix this, the company is trying to save over 500 million dollars. They plan to do this by cutting back on marketing, ending some contracts, and leaving certain job positions empty.

In his message to the staff, Sweeney said, Today we’re laying off over 1,000 Epic employees. I’m sorry we’re here again. The downturn in Fortnite engagement that started in 2025 means we’re spending significantly more than we’re making, and we have to make major cuts to keep the company funded.

Sweeney also mentioned that these changes are necessary to make Epic Games more stable for the future. He said, This layoff, together with over $500M of identified cost savings in contracting, marketing, and closing some open roles puts us in a more stable place.

It is very sad to see so many people lose their jobs just because a popular game is not making as much money as it used to. It shows that even the biggest gaming companies can run into serious money trouble if they spend too much. Hopefully, the people who were let go can find new work quickly in the gaming industry.

What do you think about Epic Games letting go of so many workers? Do you think Fortnite is starting to lose its popularity for good? Let us know in the comments!
